TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Be VERY careful when looking to book this inn. We stayed under previous ownership and, having had a great experience, decided to book again for a short weekend away this last weekend. I booked in October, received email confirmation and a receipt for the first half of my stay which also posted to my credit card right away. So I thought everything with my booking was confirmed. We got there Friday night around 4:30pm to doors locked, no lights on and a sign on the door thanking the public for a great season. I call the phone number which rings and rings until a voicemail box which is full. No response from anyone, I have emailed but don't expect a response. One of the shops across the street said the inn has been closed for about 3wks. I couldn't believe it. I had received check in instructions earlier that morning. We go to Door County a few times a year, I have never had an experience like this. Lucky for us it's November and not a month ago so we found other accommodations. I get that help has been hard to find, maybe you can't stay open as late into the season as you thought. But I never received a phone call, an email, a carrier pigeon, nothing to let me know they couldn't accommodate us. These owners could not care less. Should they re-open for next season, DO NOT BOOK HERE.

Don't stay here. Here are the "highlights"...-No one to greet us upon arrival-Room at 58 degrees, couldn't change it. I thought it might snow. Put coats and robes on top of bedding to try to keep warm-Inn email states "fresh coffee served daily at 7:30am." Husband went down at 7:45 but same pot of coffee was on the hotplate 3 days in a row.-same muffins- "Contact front desk for ice". NO ONE at front desk.-Email said innkeeper is there from 7:30am to 6pm. Not true. NO ONE was there. Didn't see a soul from Mon through Wed.-I sent email to innkeeper on Wed sharing 7 issues we had with our stay. Innkeeper took 30 hours to respond saying he was shorthanded but did not address or resolve any of our problems._ The payment for our room was taken from my charge account the day BEFORE we left. There was no one there to express our displeasure with and get a partial refund for such poor service.-Sent email to innkeeper asking for at least one night's refund due to poor service, cold room etc. NO Response after 10 days of waiting so I decided to write this review to warn others.Incredibly unethical. Totally frustrated.Renter be ware!

My fiancee and I booked a room for a two night stay the first week of October. We ended up leaving after the first night. Just too many problems to make it worth it to stay the 2nd night. First of all, when I went to open the windows..they were FILTHY on the inside. Just black on the bottom from dirt, cobwebs, dead bugs. How hard is it to take a vacuum cleaner attachment and clean this up? And speaking of bugs, the room was overrun with them. We kept finding these crawling bugs on the floor that we had to kill amd dispose of. Yuck. The bathroom. When we arrived and started unpacking, we saw that our shower had obviously not been cleaned after the previous guests. There was an unwrapped/used bar of soap and a half bottle of shampoo. There was no on-site staff there at all. Not when we arrived, nor the next morning when we "bugged out". There's a table next to the front desk with a coffeemaker and glass covered cake stand, which we assume is there for coffee and some kind of bakery. Well, no bakery of any kind, and you could tell the coffee had been sitting there cold for days, as it had stuff floating/skimmed at the top. So yeah, staying here was..well, if you dread coming back to the hotel after your day out.. We just decided to cut our trip short and go home, as everyplace else nearby was already booked. Not at all happy about having to leave a day early, and losing the money we'd paid on top of it. Following up, my fiancee emailed them. He got a response from the innkeeper, stating they're understaffed and, according to their policy, they are not authorized to give any kind of refunds. All we can say is, for $218 per night, we would expect better accommodations. We understand staff shortages, but this is all clearly not right. We would not stay here again, and we would recommend anyone else steer clear as well.

First and last time staying here. The room was charming. The service from the owner was non existent. I mean really non existent. No one checked us in or out, no one was ever at the front desk. There was supposed to be coffee or tea in the lobby always which turned out to be never. Just go down to the lobby and ask for ice. Ask who?We did see the owner in his parking lot as he yelled at us for parking in his lot stating it was for customers only. I’m not sure he heard me say I was a customer as he quickly got in his car in a huff.Sent him an email to make sure my car would not be towed. Never heard from him.Would not recommend under this management. The only reason for a 2 star is the room was nice.

We had dinner here last night. The food was delicious and the staff was very friendly. We didn't have to wait too much! So we had a really great time! ?

No lights in hallway where rooms are- safety issue and could not see door lock. Room lights minimal, not enough to see to even read book. TV never got it to work. No staff at front desk during stay, only when check in/out days.

This place is in a great location with lots to do within a walking distance.. shops, eats, sweets, and outdoor activities! The place itself is an old building built in 1887 and has much of that old building charm, but could also use some TLC when compared to other inns in the area. You will hear anyone coming or going from adjacent rooms and will also hear the main entrance door slamming. If you are a warm-natured person, be warned the rooms get hot at night and the AC is almost nonexistent although there is a thermostat in the room (that they ask you not to touch). The windows do not open and there is no fan. They do provide bar soap and conditioning shampoo.

We booked our third stay at the Whistling Swan. We tried to stay other times but because of covid and a change in ownership, it was unavailable. When they reopened, we booked again for a visit to see a show at the Door County Auditorium. We had a medical emergency which precluded us from visiting. The auditorium gladly reserved our booking for a future show. The Whistling Swan refused any accommodation. They forced us to pay the full booking even though we were struggling with an emergency that was unavoidable. Truly unempathetic. We will never stay there again.

So much was wrong I didn't know how to make a complaint. Appetizer over cooked, poor quality meat cuts, blackened prime rib did not have seasoned flavor. Fish was cold when brought to the table. Beef described as braised was at most pan fried, skipped the braising to tenderize. Rice overcooked, potatoes rubbery undercooked. The restaurant is beautiful the menu sounds great. The service was great. Please educate your cooking staff on how to deliver seasoned well prepared dishes. I think the owner/chef was in the dining room most of the time. We are willing to pay $150 dollars for a good meal but at a minimum expect seasoned well prepared meal. All I could do was ask that salt and pepper be brought to the table.

When we went to our room the room had not been serviced at all. The staff was very apologetic. There was suppose to be coffee in the morning but there wasn’t. The grounds were not kept at all. There were weeds everywhere. Poor internet service. TV was extremely small.

This Inn is the oldest in the Door Peninsula. It has been hauled across the frozen Bay... It has charm! They have done a great job renovating and they are attempting to make enough money this season to do the additional renovating to get this place as damper as people want it to be! It is a work in progress but you can tell alot of love has and is being poured into this place! The price is fantastically reasonable in contrast to the surrounding lodging. The cocktails in the bar were not only great but also very reasonable cost-wise. We had the fish boil directly across the street and shopping is literally steps away. The floors are creaky and the walls are thin, but that's what comes with an old, beautiful building! We will absolutely be coming back to stay amd see how they continue to grow and succeed in the coming years!Rooms: Cute and spacious. Love the bathroom.Walkability: Less than a two minute walk to everythingFood & drinks: Delicious and well made

Hotel is in desperate need of renovation both outside and inside. Also needs more staff. There was only someone on reception in the morning so no one to greet us on arrival and bedroom wasn’t cleaned after first night. The bed was comfy and the bathroom was clean which was the only positive thing to say. Such a shame. A lovely building falling into disrepair.

Stayed at the Inn and enjoyed our weekend but I feel like there were some things that I didn't see mentioned in the reviews that I would've liked to know prior to booking a room here. *The rooms have no curtains so if you face east, you basically have the sunrise shining directly in your face all morning. *There are small windows above the doors so the bright hallway light shines into your room all night. *The rooms are basically just small bedrooms off the hallway so you will hear the bar noise from downstairs and if your neighbors are noisy, you will hear it plain as day. *The wifi did not work in my room. At one point, it wasn't even showing up as an available network. *You can't adjust the thermostat in your own room because it affects the entire floor so you just have to deal with it. However, the bathrooms were nice and seemed recently renovated, shower was great. The parking was great and the walkability of the Inn is amazing for Fish Creek but I don't think I would be eager to stay here again for the price you pay and what you get.
