“Excellent place. It has a lot to offer. However, it is incredibly warm where the machines are for working out. It's significantly warmer than the YMCA in Milton. I leave with my clothes so wet from sweat it's as if I jumped in the pool with my clothes on. I don't get anywhere near this sweaty at the YMCA in Milton and I do the same routine at both places.”

“The food pantry provides a generous amount of food, but it's not enough for the month. They are friendly. However, when you have an appointment, sometimes someone will pull out all the resources and talk to you and another appointment a different person it's like they don't exist.”

“Lately I have found this particular location has had some very good quality and brand clothes, especially kids clothes. I have also gone in hoping to find something quick and cheap on the slim chance the random item might be there, and honestly, 90% of the time it is at this location. I would suggest giving it a visit if you're thrifting.”

“I attended a birthday party at this venue. I was impressed by the space of the room and all the activities provided. They even included the use of a gym and equipment for the children. Loved it!!”

“Im writing this review a year or so later …..I came across the reviews as I was just coming to get the phone number to put on a rental application…..anyways I came to Wisconsin and found this shelter on google fleeing from my abuser in Illinois. I stayed here for a total of 6 months. Me and my kids are very grateful of every staff member there. We created special bonds w. Everyone. , miss Danielle, miss Angie, miss Theresa, and miss Cindy. Lucas, Kat, Sam everyone was awesome. I made friends w. Almost every family there. I even still talk to a woman I met there. It’s very clean when everyone is on board w. Their chores. You cook and eat your own food. But there’s always something there if you can’t or don’t have anything. The rooms were big. Enough bathrooms. Best shelter I’ve ever been to. Of course you have some ppl who just aren’t ready to get there stuff together. But if you want genuine support on your journey this is a great place ❤️”

“I will forever be grateful for the assistance of the house of Mercy. The ways in which they are willing to help go above and beyond. Beth is a saint. That woman would do more for you than some people's own families. A true angel. Leslie isn't there as often (at least at the time of this post) but she's incredible, too. They are a fantastic duo.
Chad, the manager, also gets things done. It can be a little intimidating to talk to him sometimes, but do it anyway. He's incredibly generous, and truly seems to want to help.
The knocked off star is for one person, alone. The solo case manager. After talking to people that used to live here, years ago, I learned there used to be several case workers. All that's left now (2025) is Margaret. She hated me from the moment she saw me. The first time I really sat down with her, she told me I was out after only my first month. Why? Because I hadn't filled out work searches and apartment applications.. things I had no idea I was supposed to do, because it was her job to tell me to do them, and she hadn't. But she told me (the person she hadn't told) that she'd told me, and that it had been my job to know. In fact, she seems to get us mixed up quite often. Even though Chad had been with us during the previous weeks meeting, she said I hadn't been to see her that week.. with him sitting in AGAIN. The case load is apparently too much for one person.
But forgetting things isn't why she's a problem.. it's the way she treats those she decides she doesn't like. Oh, she takes her favorites and cottles them, truly helps them find places to stay (I even heard she gave her personal cell to her favorite while I was here).. but if you even think about standing up for yourself, consider yourself screwed.
Now, I had gone to Chad to tell him of the garbage treatment, and he worked with me. But Margaret put my private business out in front of other residents, twice, and treated me like crap every time she saw me in the halls.
Here's the kicker- LOTS OF PEOPLE HAVE TO GO TO CHAD ABOUT MARGARET. He has to tell/ask her to be cool. Several of the girls I was close to there went through it, where she started out awful towards them, but started treating them better after they spoke with Chad. 8/10 people can't stand going to her office - the anxiety you get on the way from your room to her office.. but because I hate bullies, and will speak up, I probably had a bigger target on my back.
Everyone else is fantastic. The volunteers and staff are phenomenal. Of course you're going to have chores. One lousy chore a day to keep the place you get to live for free looking nice. (Responding to the reviews complaining abt chores) And if you need anything, from directions to a winter coat, all you have to do is ask. Just make sure that you smile and nod at everything Margaret says, and even if she doesn't tell you, DO 25 WORK SEARCHES A WEEK! ..or be ready to face her wrath.
