I never expect top-tier quality or environment when I’m going into a DG, however I do expect customer service. My experience and reasoning for the low review is below:
We had a product arrive from a shipping service that needed to be returned, we found out our local DG has a fedex drop off, how convenient! We have never done this before so we didn't know everything to expect. We wrapped and sealed the product in the original box it arrived in. We printed off the QR code to scan and the other paper containing the barcode as noted on the return policy. They also state that with the QR code they can print off a label for the package, we still printed off the barcode just in case.
We walked into this place and I noticed 1 worker helping someone in an isle and 2 people waiting in line with nobody at the register. We stood in line for a couple of minutes while multiple people were coming in and getting in line. The self checkout was also not available to use at this time.
Finally someone in the office came out to get things going as she had not noticed a line starting to accumulate. She dropped a till on the ground during her way to the register, she had a trainee with her who stood there and did NOTHING. This kid had to be told to help pick up, I then hear this kid proceed to say “oh sorry, I spaced out for a minute”…spaced out?!?! There’s 5 people in line with no cashier, a spilled till and you space out…this type of employee need not be an employee anywhere.
After the stressed lady helped the first person through the line, the lady who was initially helping someone in the isle comes over and I hear the stressed lady murmur something about how the lady needs to stay at the register when working the register. Finally we get up to the register after about 5 minutes of waiting and ask if we can send off our package through their fedex drop off, she says “stand over here for a minute please while I help this line”. There was about 5 more people in line.
We stand there waiting to be helped for many more minutes, finally the register lady asked the stressed lady to help us. I asked if she wanted to scan the QR code and she rudely says “we don’t scan QR codes” so I say no problem we have the bar code, she looks at me and says “that needs to be taped on there for us to accept it”…I stare at here with many things running through my mind, I tell her we will do this elsewhere and walked out. Not even offering up to help tape it this time for us, the whole experience was off putting and rude.
First off we waited for almost 10 minutes to be helped, this lady doesn’t have the decency to help us by getting some tape out of their office. You can’t tell me they don’t have any tape whatsoever. Zero customer service, zero ability to manage stress, zero ability to even be helpful. The people working there have no business doing so, the people that hire and manage this store should not be employees anywhere. This is the place you go to waste time.
Also this place is not a good representation of Lodi, literally belongs in the slums because that’s what you get here. Take your low rent operation elsewhere Dollar General OR do better! Will never step foot in this place again. You should do the same.

I wanted to tell people this store maybe short staffed at times but the people that are working to keep it open are really good with customers. I'm a retired account executive and my bar for customer service is set very high. You can't teach something like this because it comes from the heart. I've experienced excellent service from Jake and Even as well as others but there 2 really stood out.
