I’ve taken a couple pieces of luggage here to have the zipper replaced and I was very happy with the time and quality of the work. Definitely going back for some shoe repairs this week actually.

Not open when I needed it. Requires masking in late 2023. Won't bother coming back =/

Had a great first experience as a customer. They repaired a pair of my favorite shoes and the cost was so reasonable that I was happy to tip on top of it. Will be back again.

Really bad customer service experience with Diane, Cecil's wife. Had a pair of shoes to replace just the bottom part of heel, and a purse with magnetic snap. It took 3 month's and many calls. I went inbecause phone voice-mail was full. She couldn't find my shoes or purse. And was totally frazzled, because the place is a disorganized mess. Bags of shoes and purses everywear. Finally she found my shoes, but could not find my purse. I said I wanted my money back and she has lost my purse. She say no I just can't find it. I was very upset not yelling, but she opens door for me to leave, and says sometimes life is hard. She calls me to say she found purse and I picked it up. What a horrible experience. Do not go there.

We heard great things about Cecil's so brought some military boots in to have a zipper replaced. Took a long time and cost almost $50, but I loved my boots, so no problem. Once they were fixed, I wore them once for a couple hours and the zipper broke again (same problem). Sometimes things are just beyond repair, so I wasn't upset. I did want my money back though. My wife brought the boots back to get a refund and was met with a horrible customer service experience. The woman behind the counter accused her of lying, said they were low quality boots (they weren't) that should have never been fixed (then why did they accept the job?), and said she already paid the repair person to fix them and she couldn't afford to give a refund. She even pulled in another walk-in customer to say "do you know what she's saying" and falsely accused my wife. She also had to take multiple breaks to deal with the "stress" of the interaction, which apparently isn't uncommon (see other reviews). I know my wife and I know how she talks to people--not harshly. She ultimately gave us most (but not all) of our money back. Incredibly unprofessional person. I'd like to say their workmanship overcame their poor customer service, but I can't. I don't know what's going on at Cecil's, but it seems to me that they need to get someone else to run the front counter and manage the store. Preferably someone with customer service skills who can handle a little stress.

Without exaggeration the worst "retail" experience I have had in too many years to remember. I bring in my shoes - they will take three weeks. No problem. We need to glue the soles our machine to do the way they were previously done is broken. No problem. These are from two different sets even though they are the same. I have two sized feet, sort of. No problem. Three weeks later they call. Do you now you gave us shoes form two different sets. yes, oh , right; now I remember. A week later I call - are they ready. Oh, we cannot do them, our machine is broken. We cannot find another repair shop to do them. I firmly - not yelling, firmly - say this was discourteous. She hangs up. I go to pick up the shoes. She accuses me of yelling at her. I did not. I tell her I am in pickle, I am headed out of town and do not have the shoes I was expecting. She tells me life is hard. The shop itself looks like a tornado had been unleashed inside. Stay far far away.

Yeah, Covid took it's toll on a lot of businesses. They got backed up a lot. I'm a long time Madison resident. I remember Cecil when he was on Francis St. I lived in an apartment above the 602 Club. If you remember that, you too are a long time Madisonian. Anyway Janssen's shop on Willy closed completely (Covid?) and Cecil's on the West side and the shop on Monona Dr. are it for shoe repair. Go to Cecil's folks. I had a pair of Teva sandals modified because of my damaged feet. The shop on Monona quoted TWICE as much as Cecil's to do the same mod! Also the turnaround time on the Monona shop was a month longer than Cecil's. Cecil's shop is hard to find but worth the search!!

I went in to get my brown dress shoes repaired. I had worn them down to the point where the soles were probably 4-5 mm thick, and had worn away a corner of the heel. The work made them look like new again (new sole and heel work, and it was integrated seamlessly)! The shop itself is also very cute to walk into!

They misplaced my shoes and owner got upset with ME because I kept coming back to inquire about my shoes. New owner (Cecil’s wife) was so very RUDE to me and displayed poor customer service. Owner then said she was frustrated and needed to leave to take a break. Staff then stepped in to help locate shoes which had been sitting in a corner for more than 4 weeks and apologized for behavior of owner. Quickly repaired shoes. I had been going to Cecil’s for YEARS and really miss Cecil! Will find a new shoe repair service!!!

Fixed my favorite birks, Only downside is that they get busy quick... the shoes took 8 weeks (because they were 8 weeks out). Workers are lovely price isn't insane.. a little high but you really get what you pay for.
