I have used Dorn Ace Hardware as my neighborhood hardware store for over 25 years. The personnel are knowledgeable and eager to assist. They treat me with respect and never act like my questions about 'do it yourself' projects are stupid. Their prices are fair and their business hours are convenient. This is a great place to visit to keep business local here in Madison.

My favorite hardware store in Madison and most likely all of Wisconsin. I find everything I need at this store. Go downstairs to the fishing store for all my Musky fishing needs also. I'd rather buy my stuff here than a big box store. I got all my bathroom stuff here and I probably saved $1000 if not more. Best part is they are locally owned! Just the best place in town!

Dorn Ace Hardware has been in this location as far back as I can remember and although I'm not a regular customer, they still make me feel like a part of their family every time I shop there. A great teamwork of people that go way out of their way to assist me in finding items or taking as much time, (within reason) to answer many of my lengthy questions. Now that I moved back to the Westside of Madison, WI., I'll be shopping here more often?!

If Dorn doesn't have it, you probably don't need it. I prefer Dorn to the Super store nearby. Staff is friendly and helpful.

I've been going to your Midvale store for 20 years. Recently it changed to Ace hardware so I joined the rewards program and got a coupon for $5 off a $25 purchase. I used it to buy some bags of bark. But I didn't look at the receipt at the time. My mistake. Later I discovered that I didn't get the $5 off. I went into the store today and asked for and adjustment. I had my receipt. The guy behind the register said he wouldn't do it, and gave me another coupon which doesn't do me any good. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars at this store. The guy could have at least explain why he couldn't give me an adjustment (he probably could have, just didn't want the hassle). This is very disappointing.

Called the store looking for some brass chain. I said I need bright brass color, not antique brass color. The guy said they had it. I found the chain section but there was no bright brass. Just the antique black/brass color. I flagged down a guy who said he be back to help me. I spent 10 minutes in the aisle way calling other hardware stores. Located another one that said they had it and left.I gave them 2 stars because they have been more helpful in the past. Their remodel has been going on for months and no one really knows where anything is. I come here because I expect better service than Home Depot. I haven't gotten that lately.

After decades of going to this little hardware store, being ignored by sexist old men and buying over-priced stuff I can get for a fraction of the price at Home Depot or harbor freight (both mere blocks away), I’ve finally had enough. They’re renovating and taking away all of the charm of an old school local store - one of the main reasons I shop there. The other reason I’ve always come here was to support a family in my community and their long-time presence in my community. Today was the last time - Tom Dorn is at the store (never seen him before) helping with the reno, and he needs to learn basic respect for other people. I was not impressed and will be going to the hardware store on the corner of Park and Lakeside St instead. Or the amazing one on Williamson St @ Dickinson. But I won’t be back here. (I’ve averaged well over $1K/year at this very store for each of the past ten+ years)
