The Cardinal Bar, originally the Cardinal Hotel built in 1908, represents the beauty of Madison's first settlement district. The bar offers incredible music, including Jazz, Latin, Folk Americana, Blues, Big Band, and EDM, providing a gathering place for the local arts, government, and LGBTQ communities. The spirits at the Cardinal Bar are as unique as the building's history, offering traditional Wisconsin ales and fresh takes on classic cocktails. The petite menu also packs a punch. Customers praise the friendly atmosphere, good drinks, and attentive bartenders, though some note inconsistencies in service and bartender knowledge. The Cardinal Bar is well-suited for private events, offering a unique view of Madison's First Settlement on Lake Monona. Frequent visitors enjoy the lively trivia nights and diverse music selections, making it a popular destination for both casual drinks and special occasions.
This place is amazing! Super cool aesthetic, modern yet old school vibes, dance floor, awesome staff (especially these two!) and good drinks! Would give it more stars if I could!

Came here on a Friday night. It was pretty busy and had a friendly atmosphere. Drinks were good. Priced average. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Definitely will be back! Parking wasn't too bad.

Great atmosphere, staff and events. Parking downtown is always rough, but it's always worth it
