One of the oddest museums I have ever stepped foot into, yet one of the most interesting. Was in Madison for their half marathon weekend and it was a cold and rainy weekend. We ended up online searching for indoor activities and this place popped up. 20 minutes away, we decided to drive and check it out.I don't know what to say to describe it.... But if you like mustard in any way shape or form, this is your safe haven! They had thousands of mustards, and varieties I would have never imagined existed. Hundreds you could taste (and buy, of course). Basement had a video going showing the history of mustard and how it has impacted the world. I won't give any spoilers: check it out yourself :)

I truly relished the ability to ketchup on the history of Mustard. You mayo want to condiment on my review. Please no sour cream responses.I highly recommend you come by and say yellow to the staff and give this place a squeeze.

Calling all condiment connoisseurs and curious foodies! If you're anywhere near Middleton, Wisconsin, the National Mustard Museum is a pungent pilgrimage you simply can't miss. Forget stuffy exhibits and dusty displays – this vibrant haven for all things mustard is a sensory explosion waiting to happen. From the moment you walk in, the friendly docents greet you with smiles as contagious as a dollop of horseradish mustard. Their passion for the humble seed is infectious, and they'll happily regale you with mustard's fascinating history (did you know most American mustards hail from Canada?). Don't be surprised if your next sandwich craves a touch of Dijon! But the real magic unfolds at the tasting bar. Eagerly, the docents guide you through a vibrant rainbow of mustards, from fiery ghost peppers to delicate lavender dreams. Each sample unlocks a new culinary landscape, leaving your taste buds dancing with delight. Fear not, timid tongues – milder options abound, and the knowledgeable staff knows just how to tailor the tasting to your palate. And if you're a mustard maestro in the making, the museum's retail haven is your El Dorado. Hundreds of jars from across the globe line the shelves, each promising a unique twist on the classic condiment. Whether you're a garlic devotee or a chipotle champion, your perfect mustard match awaits. But the fun doesn't stop at flavor. A playful trivia game tests your mustard mettle, while a ring toss game lets you channel your inner Dijon Robin Hood. And for those seeking to spread the mustard love, the gift shop overflows with adorable chotchkies and quirky souvenirs. While the suggested donation is a mere $2, the National Mustard Museum offers an experience worth its weight in gold (or, perhaps, Dijon). It's a delightful blend of education, entertainment, and pure, unadulterated mustard magic. So, grab your hot dog bun (or pretzel, or bagel – options abound!), and head to Middleton for a truly unforgettable condiment adventure.Bonus Tip: Don't leave without exploring the charming town of Middleton afterward. Quaint shops and cozy cafes beckon, offering the perfect post-mustard meander.

I found this museum at random, during one of my many Google Maps browsing sessions. At first, I thought it was odd. Then I told my wife about it, who got super excited. The next day, we drove roughly 150 miles to visit. Admission was free, so this was totally worth the gas cost, right? When you first enter, you're met with a cute little gift shop. You will be spending big here later. Downstairs, you find what, albeit educational, can only be described as one big meme. They also offer a free tasting and $2 pretzels with the mustard of your choice.Small place (1-ish hour total), but so worth it!P.S.: Don't worry; we also stayed the night and explored the greater Madison area and then some for a fun weekend trip, but this was certainly a highlight!

This place is all that and a jar of mustard.Admission was free, but that didn't stop us from buying several jars of mustard and merch to take home. Whenever you think you knew everything you could about mustard, a display is there to prove you wrong. Highlight of my trip. Absolutely worth the stop.

I have only visited the National Mustard Museum vicariously. However it receives great reviews. Most certainly the most numerous collection of various mustards in North America. As a one-time resident of Wisconsin I can confirm that it seems to easily overtake neighboring Minnesota in quirky, intriguing places. The Mustard Museum is a must see if visiting this neck-of-the-woods. Friends bought a jar of superb German mustard at the gift shop and gave it to me as a treat whereupon I proceeded to enjoy it in a number of ways that went beyond the traditional slathering on sandwiches. Mmm... Delicious!

This was a fun/random stop during our weekend in Madison! It's free to get in but they suggest a $2 donation. You can make it through pretty quickly, an hour tops but we had fun playing mustard ring toss, checking out the wall of mustard and learning some fun facts about mustard (if there is such a thing). One of the best parts was the ability to sample unique mustards! The shop also has some unique items, it's worth checking out!

Mustard. Mustard for days. Jars, tubes, cans and displays of mustard, mustard, mustard! How is is manufactured, how it was used as medicine, how it's mentioned four times by Shakespeare (and ketchup exactly never).Jars of mustard from around the world. A long wall of mustards from other countries and other states. Movies about mustard in the "Mustardpiece Theatre." Mustard games. Mustard trivia.Upstairs, all sorts of mustards for sale along with Mustard Museum memorabilia. I bought two jars of mustard (check the "clearance" shelf in the corner) and some post cards and such. Really interesting stuff and the museum is free![Round number review 20700 overall - 270 in Wisconsin - 1681 of 2023.]

Fun experience, we have been visiting the Mustard Museum once a year on our annual trip to hike Blue Mounds State Park where my wife and I got engaged 27 years ago. This is a fun family tradition! Interesting mustard history, along with a taste testing station where you can try before you buy. They also have an interesting selection of hot sauces. We bought t-shirts a few years ago and had the curator autograph it, then my wife had a t-shirt quilt made for a Christmas gift for me. Lots of funny gifts, we always leave with a bag or two full of great things. We come from Illinois and go out of our way to visit, well worth it. They used to be in Mount Horab on our way to Blue Mounds which is how we discovered it, and now in Middleton. My wife said next year we should get our hotel in Middleton it's such a nice area. Go to the Mustard Museum, it's a must ard!!!!!

Unique, educational, interactive, and fun! I love mustard and whoever else does too this is a must stop ( if you don’t like mustard that will probably change after a visit here)!!! When day tripping in the lovely town of Middleton we stumbled across the Mustard Museum. I have never heard of such a museum before. There was a full wall of mustards from every state, which was super cool. Go downstairs and tour the museum then taste all the delicious mustard you can at the tasting bar. There are SO many mustards to choose from. The museum and store are so clean and well put together, there is so much to see and taste!

Madison hotels too expensive so you stayed in Middleton instead? Well might as well visit this place on your drive from Middleton to Madison. The museum is quirky but I really enjoyed the tasting bar upstairs. Lots of tastes I'd never had before. Best thing I had was their own brand mustard. Go home with some local mustard to impress your friends and family!

We visited the National Mustard Day festival. The museum itself had lots of interesting information about mustard and is free to visit. Lots of different types of mustards were available for sale. The annual mustard festival was fun with a live band and games for kids and adults. Mustard ice cream ? too. The whole street was blocked off for the event

A MUST visit if you're in the area! I had the pleasure of going to the Mustard Museum on my last trip to WI and was blown away at their mustard selection! The bottom floor is the history behind mustard & really interesting original mustard jars. The top floor has endless amount of different mustards, mustard-related gifts, and more! There is a staff member there that displays various mustards to try and they go into great detail about each mustard. It's honestly hard to choose a favorite! There's more types of mustards than I could have ever imagined. My personal 'go-to' is the Ringhand's Beer Mustard...I put it on everything! It's a lot more flavorful than the yellow mustard in stores but not too strong like some other mustards can be. I can't go back to store mustard now...thanks for spoiling me!! :) Oh & for others who may not be local, their online store is great with reasonable shipping too! Definitely worth checking out the store location!

First I have to say I do not like mustard, but what a unique, fun museum. When you first walk in you are immediately greeted by friendly staff instructing us about the store, tastings and museum. We started with the museum self guided tour! It had everything you can imagine related to mustard. It had every kind of memorabilia you can imagine. The collection of mustard jars I particularly was interested in. My husband tasted a few mustards accompanied with pretzels. If you are in the area, it is worth to stop in for 20 - 30 minutes.
