We recently brought our dog in just a few hours after she was spayed at her regular vet. She started bleeding from her incision more than what is normal. When we arrived, they immediately took her back to check for internal bleeding among other things. She spent the night with the staff and Dr Lydia Colopy was incredibly helpful in explaining what was going on and all of the options that we had. She asked many questions that showed she truly cared. They took such good care of our girl over the course of the 15+ hours she was there. We couldn't be more grateful for the kindness and great service that we received.

Horrible service with no compassion. Brought our cat in that was at end of life with his cancer to be euthanized. Called ahead of time so they knew we were coming, when we arrived I went in ahead of my family to make sure a room was available. They had told me a room number and assured me I could go get my cat to bring in, as we were walking in someone was in the room calling in another patient which was a lively puppy (not a animal that was in distress). No empathy or compassion here at all. We then went to Madison Veterinary Specialist & Emergency Care where we were treated with the upmost compassion, 5 stars for Madison Veterinary Specialists.

My dog was euthanized here a year ago due to severe sickness and old age. I paid up front for the entire visit, as they requested. I confirmed there would be no additional costs. The staff was friendly while I was there which is why I left a 3 star instead of 1. After the appointment, I left in tears after losing my companion of 15 years.A few weeks later I received a letter in the mail from them threatening to send me to collections for not paying for the visit that I just paid for up front. I called and told them I paid up front at the time of service, but they wouldn't take my word for it. During this phone call a worker did mention however that they had this happen with other customers previously as well. Luckily I was able to find my receipt showing I already paid in full and I sent it to them. They recognized at this time that I did in fact pay and that they were in the wrong. They offered a brief "apology" for this and said they will now mark my account as paid. This was the last thing I needed after losing my dog that I had since a puppy. What would have been the outcome if I hadn't kept my receipt? This was over a year ago, so hopefully they have rectified any issues like this from ever happening again.

Took our cat in when our normal vet was out of state. They were VERY caring and took great care of him. We knew with his age and his rapidly declining condition that more than likely decisions were going to need to be made. Even though the lobby was full, they took us right back, gave us unlimited time in the room, and were very caring. When the time came, we pressed the intercom, and even though I know the vet was very busy, he came in almost right away. They made sure to take care of everything privately in the room, and I appreciated that the woman even seemed a little uncomfortable telling us the cost for the day (which was less than I was expecting). Even though it was a horrible day for us, they made us feel like a priority and were so caring. We lost a family member, but so appreciate the experience we were provided. On a busy, hectic Saturday for them it did make things a little easier on us. Thank you to all of the staff for all that you do and did.

Horrible experience. Please take your animals elsewhere if you care about them. My dog (who is the sweetest thing and would never hurt a fly) growled at the vet, and seemed scared of her! We took our dog there because she developed a very firm abdomen and was having trouble moving around after eating her normal portion of food. They overcharge for everything, and try to talk you into unecessary things such as anesthesia for x-rays. We decided to take her to a different vet hours later, and had a way better experience. My dog LOVED the other vet we brought her to, despite being in pain and the poking and prodding. All she had for the new vet was kisses and tail wags. She went in for surgery for a foreign body, and they still charged less than the VCA charged for our purely diagnostic visit.

I took my suddenly ill rabbit to this VCA on a Friday night. Dr. Palmer was very knowledgeable, kind, and supportive. The front desk folks were great and compassionate, and continue to be. It was a sad event that was made a little less awful and I appreciate that very much.

Have been a huge help to us on numerous occasions with our doggie who regularly gets into some kind of trouble. We once had to leave her there for the day to be monitored and we received many updates on how she was doing. I honestly don’t know where we’d be without them! Very compassionate, caring, and knowledgeable staff and doctors. 10/10!

Took my pup in urgently after he seemingly had respiratory issues. From the moment I called the front desk to the moment I checked out I felt heard and like the staff cared about us. Once we got there, of course, my dog started acting fine—they were so good at making me feel like anyone would have/should have brought their dog in. They then completed an exam and were SO thoughtful about not tacking on additional testing but still fully examined him to make sure nothing was going on. I left without a huge bill and peace of mind.

The professionalism and kindness of the staff here are top notch. We drove over 2 hours to bring our 3 year old lab here, and although we hope to not have to do it again (emergency situation), it is comforting knowing this level of care is available for us and our pets.

If I could give negative stars I absolutely would. Here is me and my dogs story.I saw some symptoms in my dog that were very concerning. I called his vet and they told me to take him to an ER animal hospital. So I did, I dropped him off in the afternoon with a stool sample (which they informed me they didn't need) and they said it would be a long wait but they would check him out and keep an eye on him. Later that evening they called me and said that he had a soft tissue injury in his lower back that was causing him pain, said his vitals and bloodwork were good. I asked about an xray and she said she was confident in her diagnosis and he wasn't showing a pain response in his spine or any other bones so she didn't take one. She prescribed him a muscle relaxer, pain med and an anti inflammatory. Told me to follow up with his primary vet and I told her I would call them the next morning and that he had a check up coming up and I would schedule it early and that they would do bloodwork, different samples, etc and make sure he is healing as he should be.The next 2 days went by fine, he had lots more energy, I could tell he was in a little bit of pain but he looked to be feeling better. The 3rd day he looked to be in more pain so I called my regular vet and set an appointment for the next morning (that was the soonest they had available). I went about my day as planned and 2 of my kids were keeping an eye on him after I went to work. My daughter called me a few hours after I went to work absolutely hysterical. Our dog had a seizure and passed out. My husband got home a few mins later and he took him to the ER vet again and I met him there. Unfortunately our beloved dog passed away from INTERNAL BLEEDING, not a hurt back. For people that don't know, an anti-inflammatory will thin your blood. So they didn't only misdiagnose him, they killed him faster. Unfortunately their mishaps don't end there. They told me the next steps that needed to happen if I wanted to get him cremated was to call the services they used and arrange for him to be picked up. That he would remain there until I did so. The next day I called his regular vet to notify them of everything and I decided to have them do the cremation (his vet absolutely adored him, everyone there did), but I would have to transfer him myself cause they can't do pick up. I called the ER and let them know I would be coming in a few hours to get him and to have him ready. They assured me they would. About 20 mins later I get a phone call from the cremation services the ER uses and they are calling me to notify me that they picked up Bronx a few HOURS ago and wanted to talk about what I wanted to do next. (So needless to say the vet temporarily lost my dogs body cause they assured me he would be there until otherwise instructed. And I told them I was coming to get him and they said they would have him ready, when in fact his body was already gone).I did some digging after all of this and found out that the ER didn't do ANY bloodwork, and they tried to say that I denied it to be done. THAT NEVER HAPPENED (I had a friend with me the whole time and heard every word that was said that can vouch for me). The only thing I denied was a DNR. And how did I deny something that we didn't talk about until they already diagnosed later that evening when they called me. That was the only time we talked about bloodwork, was when they told me his bloodwork was fine and I told them his regular vet would do a follow up. I had an investigation started and they ruled in my favor, telling me more could and should have been done when it came to his diagnosis and they were very sorry about losing his body. I'm posting this review in hopes that this won't happen to anyone else. It took me a long time to post this review because I was, and still am beyond pissed that this happened and I wanted a clearer mind and not just completely bash everyone there when I made my review. I will never go to this ER again!!!!

About a year ago my dog needed emergency services twice in a couple months. The first time was her diagnosis with Addison's Disease. She was hospitalized here overnight and while I was so worried about her, the doctor and staff who communicated with me were very sympathetic, explained what was happening in terms I could understand, and were open to answering any questions I had when I called in after bringing my dog back home. Our second visit was much the same, my dog was treated well. When she wouldn't take the medication they prescribed because she had no appetite, they gave me liquid medication, advised me on syringing it into her mouth, etc. I'm really grateful for VCA, I knew my dog was in good hands when she was there. No matter the time of day, you guys are alert and knowledgeable.

Brought Bing in at noon on Friday because he was having trouble breathing correctly. He was seen right away but then I didn't hear anything until 4 pm. At 4 pm I was asked to wait in the private room and that a dr would be with me right away. I waited in there for a half an hour before the dr came in. They agreed that bings breathing was labored but he had responded well to oxygen, so they sent us home. Why the idea that taking him off of oxygen and sending him home would worsen his condition didn't cross anybody's mind is beyond me. Of course his breathing got bad again and I returned with bing at 9pm despite the receptionist on the phone telling me he would be fine. Again, he was seen right away, about 9:15pm and again I heard nothing and wasn't given any updates until midnight. At midnight they again called me into the private room and was told they wanted to monitor Bing overnight. So I waited for three hours to be told to go home and to return at 6am. I was told specifically to return at 6am because the clinic gets busy at 7. I return the next day at 6 am and am basically ignored until 8:30am, at which point I ask the receptionist for an update on bing. I am told "I need to be patient". This is after spending a combined ten hours in this waiting room with absolutely zero communication. Finally I am called back into the private room and the woman who sees me is completely unhelpful, is unaware of any treatment, says she "doesn't have letters after her name" and is unaware the dr the night before was going to prescribe an inhaler. Just a complete mess when it comes to communication and care. I appreciate the help Bing received the SECOND time I brought him in but that doesn't change my opinion. Will never be returning here, I'd rather drive to Milwaukee.

My last visit with my dog Becker was pretty egregious. Not only from the staff forgetting my dog's name three times (and calling him she) TO the same staff wanting to do yet another diagnostics (despite doing one already) TO the staff making enough noise to sound like they were having a party out front TO them calling me multiple times - including at midnight - to discuss the already-paid-in-full medical bill that they screwed up on TO "there's nothing else we can do for you except prescribe some pains." Seriously, I haven't even gotten to the main issue, which was them basically saying they couldn't figure out or even have the slightest clue about my dog's serious condition despite an X-ray and their diagnostic tests. From a more reputable vet, it was found that he has early stages of IVDD, a serious condition that could've been caught earlier. Add insult to injury was the $500 bill for literally 15 minutes of the vet's time for her expert diagnosis. Although they appear empathetic and understanding, I can't help but feel this place runs like a business without any services rendered. I highly advise people to go elsewhere not only for financial reasons, but also for the livelihood of your beloved pet.

I want to thank the staff at VCAV-Middleton. You all are amazing! We were turned away by the Janesville location because the were at capacity and Middleton said they were as well, but when they heard what was going on they said to bring her in.Unfortunately we didn't make it in time. As soon as I ran in, they came running out, getting their plan together, asking me questions, but i kept saying i don't think she made it. The lady jumped up, no hesitation, to see what she could do, and she did confirm it. How fast they came out was amazing and jumped right into action was amazing. All the staff we passed gave their condolences. They were very helpful with giving us all the information. Then they gave us as much time as we wanted and we were there for a while with no interrupts.Thank you is not enough. You guys are great. You are amazing. The love for other's pets really shows.

Our 19-yr old geriatric cat had an episode, we thought stroke but turned out just vestibular, and they were able to save a spot to get him looked at right when we arrived (55 min drive). Dr Russotto was amazing as was Emily who took my call. Front staff and Jillian were very empathetic to our concerns. So glad we were turned away by 3 care centers in Milwaukee plus 2 others in Madison otherwise we'd never have found this place!
