June 2023 by William Knight
I had been having my taxes done here the past few years. 2022 was a challenging year going through a divorce. The bill ended up being 5x larger ($3300 just for tax prep) than previous years which Scribner Cohen attributed to the complexity of divorce filing. I spoke with others who have been in the same situation and I spoke with other tax accountants as well. No one I spoke with was anything less than completely shocked by what we were charged. When I questioned the bill, I was personally blamed for my lack of prompt communication with Dawn and her team throughout the year (I admittedly was not always on the ball with quick responses to their requests), and given a breakdown of hourly billing (rates, etc) that they were not willing to share previously. We were always just told that their services would be worth our while. In addition, the invoice I received noted that late payment charges would be assessed after 60 days from the invoice date. Scribner Cohen took it upon themselves to levy these fees after only 30 days and threaten additional fees should I not pay promptly. As I write this review, I am still well within the 60 days they promised when the original invoice was sent. Needless to say, I will not be doing my taxes with Scribner Cohen going forward and would encourage anyone reading this to look elsewhere for your tax preparation needs.

Epic! Emailed them three times over the span of just over a week for help with tax prep and they couldn't be bothered to get back to me. In the month of April, you staff up and you reply to emails. I'm a small business owner with no business degree and I know that much.
