Very rustic so if you're the room service type, keep looking. But for my family, who's been coming for nearly 40 years, it's our respite from the hustle of life. 14 cabins ranging in size and a huge lake frontage on a gorgeous chain of lakes. My wish is that needed updates on the cabins that don't have showers (there are about 4 of them) be made to sustain the business). I'd have to believe the extra cost for these updates would be gladly accepted by us faithful. Pets are welcome, too and my dogs have had the privilege of cabin life one week at a time over their lifetime, which makes me have a peaceful time as well.

Rustic resort. Not fancy. Affordable. It's the people that make the place great. There is a reason people have been coming back every year for generations.

Idle Hour is one of the best places on planet earth. It is a wonderful place to go and relax for however long you please. Most cabins have a rustic vibe and a lot of them have a view of a wonderful lake. If you don’t have a view of the lake, you can still get to it very easily. You are surrounded by beautiful nature and very friendly people. You can do many activities like horseshoes, bonfires, swimming, and so much more. You can head to the lodge to get some drinks, food, and ice cream. There are also restaurants near by. There is a playground for the kids, as well as a big open space to run around. The place is very dog friendly, and there is a cute cat named Earl. My family has been going up for years and it is just such a good atmosphere with amazing people, pets, and a fun time. If I didn’t go one year, I would regret it. Highly recommend Idle Hour.

Idle hour is one of my favorite summer vacations. My family has been comming up for many years and we all love. The cabins are all very nice. Some dont have showers but there is a seprate shower building avalible. The lake is great for swimming, fishing, watersking etc. Loads of activities like horse shoes, softball, bonfires, and potlucks.

This is my favorite place in the entire world. If you want to live in the northern woods for awhile, it's the place for you (and the dog)! If you can stand a bug or two (you ARE in nature afterall) then you will love it. It's not the type of place to come to if you are expecting to be pampered with a mint on your pillow. It is definitely a wonderful place to take the family and get away from all the noise and light pollution and enjoy yourself. The cabins are all different and I think I have stayed in 4 or 5 of them now, and I am working my way through hopefully all of them! The people who run it are extremely kind and welcoming, they make you feel like a local. Pet friendly and kid friendly, a beautiful lake to fish and swim in, and all around a fun property to explore. If you run out of something or need assistance with something in your cabin, all you need to do is ask. I love how people complain about little things (ie: bug in shower or no coffee pot) and will publicly complain on here rather than just ask the hosts. They are more than accommodating, they truly are family and if there is something you are not happy with just let them know and they will find a solution. This is just my favorite place ever and I can't wait to come back next year.

We stayed in the duplex. The cabins are old and run down and smell very musty. You can't see out of any of the windows because there is plastic on every window. The furniture looks like it's from the 70s and shows it's age. The cabins are also very small with only a couch and one chair for seating. My husband couldn't sit on either without his allergies acting up. Our dining table had a worn out table cloth on it that was faded and had a hole, the table looked worse so we left the cloth on. There wasn't room to pull the table out from the wall so there was limited seating at the table also. There was only one extra roll of toilet paper and half of it had been chewed on by a mouse. On the bright side, the owner is very nice and the cabins are cheap to rent.
