Back in June of '23, the staff greeted us after my bringing them a sick Dodge Caravan w/ a battery light that came on. Their rapid response was that of getting the car in sooner that even stated that day. We were, as a family, w/ two vehicles, a two year old, and 3 1/2 more hours into a Northern WI vacation already logging three hours before the failure of a voltage regulator (alternator), after Ty of the Portage Autozone hooked us up w/ these folks, and they turned out to be quite the competent mechanics that got it done in timely fashion and got us back on the road later that day and helped to save our trip! You guys went WAY beyond, and we owe a debt of gratitude like no other!! You did a fine job and the repair has STILL been done right to this day after finishing the trip up and back! Thanks much again for all! Get your needed repairs done here, folks! You will not be sorry!

Absolutely horrible. Went in for exhaust issue and they replaced my catalytic converter without asking me and that was not the issue. Then my car left the shop in worse shape. Idling rough and wanting to die went stopped. I cancelled the appointment with them and will be taking it elsewhere. I truly think they damaged my other cat parts and purposely had me buy new catalytic converter and who knows what they did with my old one that was not defective.

I had been going to Doug at Northside automotive in Portage for years. Never again! I had an oil change done by Doug and in Montello one day the oil light came on and there was a puddle under the car. I had the car towed to a repair shop in Montello and they informed me the oil filter came off and was laying on the A-frame. They changed the oil, replaced the filter, cleaned up the oil that sprayed all over the car. I brought all the receipts to Doug and he reimbursed me for the repairs and tow. Fast forward to the next oil change done by Doug. My car died in the Briggsville area. I had the car towed to the Northside and Doug told me the motor was blown. He offered to replace it for thousands of dollars or buy the car from me as is for $600. to $700. I told him I had to think about it. I decided to tow the car home and repair at a later date. I had another mechanic come to my home and check it over since the care has only 67000 miles on it. The motor was not blown. Same thing happened the oil filter fell off. Bad enough this happened again but then Doug told an outright lie to me that the motor was blown! I drove the car to Northside and confronted Doug again. He cut me a check again for the tow, oil, and filter. Nothing for the mechanic that came to my home. I had a death in the family and was driving to Georgia and just south of Janesville the car quit running. No the oil filter did not fall off and it was a $600. Tow to get the car home and I had to fly to Georgia. I had a mechanic come to house and check the car again. This time the motor was blown. Mechanic stated internal parts were compromised or fatigued from loosing oil twice. The 3.8 Buick motor is well built and should not go at only 67000 miles. I am talking to a lawyer to see if I can sue to be reimbursed for all my expenses. Be cautious doing business with Northside Automotive in Portage.Service: Engine repair

Broke down the day before Thanksgiving while traveling from OH, they squeezed me in last minute and got me back on the road! (No further issue) Most important trip of my life they have no idea the role they played in helping me continue my journey! All the other shops in town were ignorant, rude and dismissed my issue, while this place helped even with inconvenience of time. Thank you guys so much, if I could have paid you all a million dollars I would have, forever thankful!Service: General repairs & maintenance

If you want to end up having to take your vehicle to another shop to have the problem fixed, this is the place for you.We took our Cruze there a few months ago because something was draining the battery. We had it towed there, and they couldn’t find the issue. We got charged $80 anyway, because they “worked on it for two hours” but “we’ll only charge you for one”. Mind you, the radio screen was clearly not working properly when it was brought in. Anyway, they instructed us to take it to Johnson’s on 51. We again had to have it towed there, only for them to determine the radio fuse needed to be pulled.Recently, we also took our equinox in to get a new steering rack. For whatever reason, they weren’t able to get it programmed. We are again instructed to take it to a Chevy dealership where we are quoted $150 to have the steering rack programmed. On our bill from Doug’s Northside, we were charged for “steering rack complete (includes: programming)”. When asked to have $150 refunded back to us since this is what we now have to pay out of our own pockets to have the job they were supposed to finish completed somewhere else, they tell us “we charge $35 so I could double that and give you $70, best I can do”. Which I found hard to believe because their hourly rate is $65 (ish?) which I assume would’ve been the cost normally (not $35). So overall we took our equinox in because it was busted, and we picked it up with no power steering and still got charged for the programming they never did. Take your money somewhere else (you’ll probably have to anyway).
