This is a fantastic little park just off the side of the road in the small village of Rockbridge. The natural bridge spans the west fork of the Pine river as it flows down and joins the Pine river a 1/2 mile from the park. Over the ages the two branches of the river have each carved away at their sides of a sandstone ridge until today there is a ridge only about 20 to 30 feet wide extending for about a mile. Near the northern end the west fork carved down far enough to meet a location where it could tunnel through the sandstone ridge and form the natural bridge.
There is a short hiking trail blasted through the ridge with a bridge at the other end so you can experience both sides of the sandstone ridge. There is a series of steps to the top of the ridge. There is a small park with some playground equipment and a picnic shelter.
In short if you are in the area this is a must stop especially since it is so accessible and you can easily spend from 30 minutes to 3 hours in the park.

While larger geological formations in this part of the state are well-known (like Mill Bluff State Park, or Natural Bridge State Park), there are small gems hiding in the woods here and there. This one has a small stream flowing under the spot where two cliffs touch each other above the surface of the water. It also has a tunnel drilled through the sandstone rock, and a trail that goes at the bottom and top of the rock. It's also a great spot for the picnic.
