One of the most historic places in Door County. It is a must stop when visiting Washington Island. Bitters shots are the most traditional thing here. Totally recommended.

This a must on the island it's a friendly spot with locals and toursit blended together. Depending on the time of year, they have a supper club, tavern menu, and pretty great pizzas. Love the tap selections. Mel is a great bartender to chat it up with. Many friendly people to talk to that have a history of the island to share. Join the bitters club and get the story! The walls are covered with island history worth looking at. Lots to see here for a quick beer or a long hang and watching a game or playing pool.

So this place has been around forever. It has a great backstory that I won't regale you with - ask one of the bartenders to do so for you. It's got a WI superclub-ish vibe. I'd sit at the bar if I were you. I've only been here once, but I gotta tell you that it involved the best broasted chicken I've ever had. Two things, a leg, and a wing. Piping hot, crispiest damn skin ever. And a classic baked potato wrapped in tin foil with butter and sour cream to boot. Oh, started with a side salad that came with what seemed to be homemade French dressing. Delicious. And yes, you must finish your meal with a shot of Bitters. There is no other way.

We stopped in for a beer after touring the island. Good draft selection, friendly bartender and a lot of history. A good place to stop and take in the atmosphere.

A classic old tavern, the place serving alcohol for the longest continuous period in the United States.I stopped in out of curiosity and surprised myself by enjoying a straight shot of Angostura bitters and enjoyed it with a dark beer chaser as the bartender told me the history of this unusual place and why it served bitters.

Joined the bitters club! Very busy, felt bad for the only bartender. Brandy Old Fashion was OK. Building is really cool and atmosphere was great. Made some new friends there!

The service was not good, at all. We had 8 people at our table. They were not busy. Our server handed 1 person the drinks to give to everyone at the table. We asked for plates for appetizers and she brought 4 plates. 1 drink of the 8 ordered (2 the same) took until we were about halfway done with our food. I definitely wouldn’t recommend going here.

Visited Nelsen's on our honeymoon on 8/7, and try to go every time we are in Door. The vibe is chill and fun, the BLT is tasty AF and the petite, female bartender with the fun glasses is awesome.
