I ordered 12 chickens (6 brown leghorns, 6 salmon Faverolles). 2 of the chicks died within hours of receiving them. The other ones all died within 6 months. I have never had this problem with other hatcheries. I drive past this place one day and their cows were knee-deep in manure and the geese and ducks were practically swimming in it. It also smelled rancid, like rotting meat at a slaughterhouse.

Ordered over 50 chick's. 9 DOA. They did credit promptly. 50 were Cornish Cross pullets. No problem except 8 weeks later over half are roosters! The response is we got a deal as roosters are more expensive! Needless to say I will be better prepared next year and order from Sunnyside Hatchery.

We ordered 12 chicks, only 8 arrived. We live near this place, so we thought we could just drive out to pick up the other 4, they said no. They also said they could not mail just 4 chick's. Ridiculous we paid for 12 chick's I expected 12. Not 8. Instead of letting us get our 4 that we're missing, they gave us a refund. I wanted chickens. Not to get my money back. We also called the pots office in town, they said 3 boxes arrived, we said that is any of them had 12 to let us know, turns out someone else had also ordered chickens from them, the person called us to tell us that they did not get out chickens, then while talking to them, we found out that they had orderd like 40 chickens and only got 10. Very disappointed in how this turned out.

BUYER BEWARE!!They straight out lie to customers. I ordered from Abendroth Hatchery in Wisconsin My chicks came from Hoover hatchery in Iowa. If I wanted tractor supply chicks I can drive the 4 miles to get them. When I called I was told, it is what it is, it’s the busy season. I specifically ordered early and local to get specifically what I wanted. I expected more from a business from my state of Wisconsin. So don’t expect to get what you order from their website from them, but from some other company. I was told I will get credit for the three dead chicks. I guess we will see if they are honest about that. UPDATE. Within 24hrs total of 6 chicks dead out of 12. I ordered 6 orpington and then another 6 ranger to fill out my min order. I now have no egglayers and 6 meat chickens I didn't really want. Update. They all died

Placed my order and chicks shipped on the selected date. Nice customer service experiences here, both email and when I called for tracking #. Fyi tracking numbers are typically sent 8pm on the day they ship unless you call earlier. To my surprise the chicks shipped from IA via the St Paul USPS. Similar to recent reviews, and a bit of a bummer when you think your order is more local in said state. What I glossed over when I ordered is the FAQ section on their website which says they DO ship with multiple hatcheries. Through all the excitement, I made the mistake of frequently checking the tracking number which didn't move in two days at USPS, but at the end of my expected delivery time my chicks did arrive at my local post office. Needless to say the postal service didn't update anything from drop off to arrival which was stressful but they got the job done and I am greatful to those who made it happen. All healthy so far and the chirps made my day. Hopefully your chicks arrive safe too!

I ordered Lavender Orpingtons, Ameracaunas, and Salmon Faverolles from Abendroth Hatchery in February. They were shipped out the end of March from Hoover's hatchery in Iowa. If I wanted chicks from Hoover's I would have ordered from them.
Not only that but I never received any notification that the chicks had shipped, I only knew from watching the order page and saw a tracking number show up on my account.
I also was not notified of any substitutions in my order but the Salmon Faverolles I ordered are definitely not Salmons. They don't have the right coloring or feathered feet or extra toes or tufted chins.
If they didnt notify me about any substitutions and they lied about where the chicks are coming from what else did they get wrong? Did my chicks get the Marek's vaccination? Did I even get all females or did they send me a bunch of roosters? How would they even know since they basically drop shipped them from Hoover's?
Stay away from Abendroth Hatchery

Like many other reviews mentioned, chicks were from Hoovers in Iowa. After about 2 or 3 days of trying to keep our chicks alive, we ended up with a 50% survival rate. What a sham.

BEWARE BUYERS I wouldn’t recommend buying any Chicks from this place . My dad ordered 30 Cornish Cross Broiliers from this place . An when we picked them up from our local post office they were all dead . Come to find out from previous reviews the chicks were coming from Hoover Hatchery out of Iowa & not out of Abendroth Hatchery in Waterloo Wisconsin , Very disgusted. When we called to report that the chicks were dead , it took for ever for them to answer or call back. When they called my dad back they said that they would send out more the week after next but it wouldn’t be just female that we wanted for the meat hens. Customer service sucks called to cancel the next order for the 25 white leghorns that were supposed to be delivered to the post office next week but won’t be getting our refund back for those because of the fact we canceled the order with in the 10 days of when they were supposed to be shipped.

First time customer I ordered five Buff Laced Polish and ten Buff Orpington all females. I couldn't find anyone else that had that order in stock. Not only did they fill the order promptly but they all seem to be perky. Very happy with my order.

I ordered and paid 3 months in advance for 50 Cornish cross. The week my chicks were to ship, I received an email stating my eggs didn't hatch and they would send chicks the next week. So the following week I received chicks: but only 10. When I called I was told they would send me 40 more next week. I am doubtful at best, and I won't order from Abendroth again. I've ordered from several other hatcheries in the last 10 years, and never had a bad expeeience until now.
