About Black Beach Campground

Black Beach Campground offers a private and spacious camping experience with large sites that are typically flat and suitable for tents or RVs. Each site generally includes a picnic table, with most being covered, though not all. While all sites are good, not every one has direct lake access, so it’s advisable to check ahead via Google Earth, in person, or on the state park website to find a site with lake access; in-person inspection is best due to the area's hilly terrain, with some sites up to 20 feet above the lake level. The campground’s setting is very scenic, and many sites feature views of the water. However, the area has limited bathroom facilities, which are not serviced often, though dumpsters are easy to access. This can be inconvenient for campers, especially those without RVs, and may require planning ahead for bathroom needs. The campground is well-spaced and peaceful, with a small herd of pronghorn visible upon arrival, adding to the natural beauty. It is particularly suited for RV camping rather than tents, as the terrain can be steep and challenging for tent setup, especially in windy conditions. The soil deposits can make staking tents difficult. The water in the reservoir was too algae-filled for swimming, and visitors should be cautious of raccoons that frequently try to access food and trash, emphasizing the need for secure storage. The campground includes a clean restroom, a nice day-use pavilion, and a good boat ramp, making it ideal for boating and outdoor activities, though visitors should be prepared for wildlife and limited amenities.
