It's a lovely park, and I can't blame park management for the weather that turned nasty overnight, but our stay did present a few problems that no one could be bothered to help us with: When we got to our reserved tent site, we found on its gravel tent pad a giant anthill that would have required a shovel and some poison to clear out. (Come on, people--At least occasionally get out there and actually inspect your sites!) When we called the park check-in number and left a message about this problem, no one ever got back to us. Fortunately, we found an ant-free spot in the Upper Spotted Tail CG--which, incidentally, the website made no mention of as a first-come-first-serve option--and we called in our change to the check-in line, hoping that someone would hear it and we wouldn't get put on the "no-show" list. We were never called back. The entrance booth had been empty when we got there, so when we got up the next morning we drove back to it to ask about trail maps. When asked, the person staffing the booth initially told us that not all hiking trails could be biked on, but when I asked for specifics she ultimately said the exact opposite: that any hiking trail could be ridden, as well. I got the feeling she actually wasn't sure of the real answer, but upon request she was able to supply us a couple of blurry, hard-to-read trail maps that appeared to be fifth-generation photocopies. When we stopped at the shower house, it was locked, and we could find no further information on when it might be open. (On the bright side, the vault toilet in our CG was almost spotlessly clean and largely odor-free.) In general, the park felt abandoned in regard to park staff and we got the sense that you just have to figure it out on your own, with precious little assistance from live humans. I don't mind paying site and reservation fees to support park operations, but for the price I expected at least minimal service and an ant-free site. But that would require effort that it seems park management just doesn't want to put into the job.

Very crowded on the weekends and hard to find an available spot because the website is horrendously awful and almost unusable. Reservations are required for the majority of spots so plan to spend a great deal of time trying to navigate the very user unfriendly website... Campsites are very close together in most areas and not on water with only a very few close to water or that offer any sort of privacy. Fishing was awful in what looked to be the perfect spot.. Take only memories, leave only footprints.

Stayed at Yurt 4. Amazing view! Yurt was clean and well maintained. Great for my family of 5. Two sets of bunk beds with full mattresses on the bottom. Sturdy wooden furniture. Solar powered lights and fan. Great deck with table. Yurt 4 is a bit away from the parking lot, so next time I'd get #3. Clean area. Beautiful. Yurt was huge! Easy to check in and out. Was expensive for 2 nights but was with it. Guernsey is a great little town. Will come again.

This place was absolutely stunning and by far the best area I’ve ever seen for boats, campers, and jet skis. For just $7 you get a day pass at paradise and I truly enjoyed it.For those who just hike and don’t do water activities, this is still a great place with breath taking views. Just be warned, you should definitely get a map and be prepared for less hiking and more just views on cliffs. On my first trail right by the museum (which is okay) I was attacked by 50+ of this one bug that I don’t know the species of. Whenever you walk down the path they fly and hit you from both sides of the path all the way down. Very annoying even with bug spray on!Here are my top picks to go if you’re just looking for trails and views:North bluff trail,The castle, and directly below the water dam is an amazing view and even spot for fishing. It looks restricted, but it’s really not. Lastly, I recommend just driving through the whole area while being very careful of the narrow roads. Below are pictures of all 3 and I recommend this place for sure!Restrooms: There was restrooms everywhere I went. No reason to go in the woods! They were well kept and pretty with an obvious porta potty stench.

Loved the lake, the train tracks are very busy and are heard from the campground all day and night long. The lake is great. Had a great time paddle boarding and enjoying the water.

We went with a group of friends and camped in the group site which was awesome. It's separated free room the other campsites enough that it feels very private. The boat ramp was nearby and easily accessible. The facilities are very well maintained. We all had a great time. Looking forward to a return trip.

This is a nice park with nice sites. It's 95 plus degrees and they park you in full sun while the shaded lots set empty. Yeah we ran the air to cool, but the shaded areas would of helped. No showers just pit toilets.

Wonderful views and great trails to be found here. Lake looks great for kayaking. There are also plenty of camping spots. Will be back!

Only a 3 now because the reservoir is drained. Campsites are rustic bit spacious. We'll be back once there's water!

I can not express in words how amazing my trip to the park was. I decided to go on a solo trip for my birthday, guernsey state park was close to where I live and looked amazing online.I rented a yurt for two nights. Not only is the price very reasonable but the whole experience was breathtaking. The staff was so friendly and helpful, the yurt was very well kept and homey feeling. The view, oh the view, it is completely breathtaking. Even the restrooms were all nice and clean, no smell, no flies! The shower facility was nice and the beach was very relaxing. I took over a hundred pics on the trip and they are all better then the next. I definitely recommend visiting the park.

We had an amazing time staying in Yurt #4. The view was spectacular & it was so peaceful. We went during the annual silt run, so there weren't that many people there, definitely no swimming or boating but you can tube down the river just at the entrance of town, so we still were able to beat the heat in the water. I do recommend not scheduling your trip during the annual silt run every July. The yurts were awesome. We stayed in #4, it is further away from the other 3 and more secluded. There is a solar fan and lights inside but no outlets, etc. There's also a wood stove for warmth if you happen to go in the cooler months. The yurts have a coded lock on the door so you feel safe leaving your valuables inside when you go out adventuring during the day. There are 2 full size beds and 2 twins so it fits up to 6 people comfortably. Be sure to bring linens. I would also bring some comfortable camp chairs to lounge on outside, there is a big metal picnic table and a wooden bench on the deck, but not that comfortable to sit on for an extended time. There's also a nice size Charcoal grill and a fire ring. There's a little grocery store and a Family dollar in town if you forget something but you should definitely try to bring all you need because in peak season they're out of a lot of things. It was just my daughter & I there for our 3 day stay and I felt safe there and never uneasy. Though I did bring protection just in case. We never seen any wildlife, although there were deer tracks around the yurt and we did see some pretty birds. Enjoy your stay! I know we did and we cannot wait to go back again to get away from all the hustle & bustle of the city.
