The apartments are spacious and in a safe area with plenty of parking. It’s a 20-minute drive to downtown/UAB.
The downside is the utility package (on top of the rent you see online), which “includes” water, valet trash, and pest control—though trash pickup is unreliable and pest control isn’t available on request. My roommate had to pay out-of-pocket for ROACH treatment. Other than that, the gate is ALWAYS open, the pool closes without warning, food trucks ALWAYS cancel.
Lots of the reviews also mention how good maintenance is… and while they are usually quick to respond, they dont always fix the issue. It took over 7 months to repair my ceiling despite them entering the apartment multiple times and marking it “complete”
Nice place overall, but overpriced for “amenities” that are inconsistent or unavailable.
Edit: forgot to mention the power WILL go out everytime it storms here, like no other apartment I’ve lived in. and the windows leak everytime it rains.

I have not enjoyed my stay here. The office is almost impossible to get a hold of. We have a bad mold problem throughout our apartment and the office finally told us they would send maintenance but they never came and when we called multiple times they did not answer. The apartment complex is quiet and spacious but things are cheaply made. The windows are sealed poorly so our apartment is constantly damp and we have found a lot of mold in all three of the closets, the vents, and the kitchen cabinets and bathrooms. I will say that the retreat hosts really nice community gatherings in the office which I do appreciate. I just really wish they would pay more attention to our concerns and that they would be more reachable.

Very grateful for all that the management of the retreat has done for us since living here. They are a very understanding and helpful group of people and are always willing to listen and work with us whenever we have needed something.

I have lived here for a few years now and I have had nothing but trouble with getting things done. I am currently without a dryer for over a week now, in one of their more expensive units and they don’t seem to have any sense of urgency to do anything about it! Matthew at the front desk is never any help. And they keep raising rates and offer less in return. The valet trash doesn’t pick up with any regularity. The person above toilet over flowed and they didn’t offer any resolution. And when I brought this to the maintenance man’s attention he just laughed it off. So I was left to clean up the other tenants poo water in my spare bathroom.

Our experience at the Retreat has been amazing so far! The office staff are very professional and friendly, we had a smooth move-in and leasing process. The maintenance team is amazing; we have had two work orders and both were taken care the next day and you can tell that the maintenance workers really care to make sure that everything is running smoothly. They are definitely the best maintenance team that I have had from my experience of living in apartments.

My wife lived here with two roommates for 2 years and had nothing but problems since day one. The apartment itself was not too bad, older with a few issues but you get what you pay for. Maintenance was slow and ineffective. They just had to pay $1500 to this garbage bag of a place. The apartment emailed them after move out with bogus charges for things that were damaged during maintenance on a busted pipe. They had pictures that prove it was not them that damaged the apartment and reached out to the apartment complex multiple times to repair them. No response. Sleezy, unhelpful, slimeball of an apartment complex. Do not live here if you can help it.Also—most of these 5 star reviews are paid for or lies. Don’t listen to them. Always look at the bad reviews for the truth.

I've lived here the past 9 months and I can't say enough about how great this place is! Maintenance is always quick to resolve any issues. The staff is super friendly. The Retreat has been the perfect spot for our family!

In June it will be a year since moving here and we have loved it! It’s quiet and so homey. Also, the staff is so nice every time we come in contact with them or need to reach out for anything. Maintenance has also been so great to us!

I called to inquire about pricing, and although it falls out of my budget, I was incredibly blown away at the professionalism and kindness I was greeted with. The property manager was quick to help and eager to assist. I hope to one day rent from them. Customer service was 10/10!!

I don’t live at the retreat at mountain Brook, however I have friends who do and when I visit it’s clean and inviting, the staff is also always very friendly! I recommend living here.
