DO NOT LIVE HERE. If it were possible to rate zero stars, that’s exactly what I would do for Alight Birmingham.
I thought I was saving money by choosing this complex, but what I’ve experienced is nowhere near worth the stress, the lack of support, and the unprofessionalism.
I have faced serious issues as a tenant, including situations where I felt my rights were not respected. Despite repeated attempts to reach the office — calling multiple times over several hours — the phone went unanswered, even during business hours. This level of customer service is unacceptable for any housing provider.
The reviews you see here are accurate. I made the mistake of assuming it would be different for me. If you’re considering moving here, please take this as a warning and save yourself from a frustrating and disappointing living experience.

I've really come to appreciate how much natural light this apartment gets. It makes the space feel so open and welcoming, no matter the weather outside. Plus, the layout is surprisingly functional, making it easy to keep things organized and tidy. It's definitely become a comfortable and enjoyable place to call home.

Cockroaches, flooding apartments, stinking trash rooms, and fire alarms that go off in the middle of the night—that’s just the background noise here.
If you’re considering living here, do yourself a favor and RUN. Unless you enjoy being nickel-and-dimed for every little thing.
✨ Pro tips for survival if you’re unlucky enough to move in:
Take a thousand pictures of every corner on day one, even if it’s just a tiny scratch—because they’ll happily charge you for it later.
Guard your key card with your life. If its appearance looks a little bad—even while still fully functional—that’s $75. What a bargain!
Don’t let a detergent cap slip behind the washer, or prepare to “donate” $25 for their treasure hunt.
Accidentally leave behind literally anything—a spoon, a paperclip, a piece of dust? Congratulations, that’s another $25+ “trash removal fee.”
Two months after moving out, I’m still disputing charges that make zero sense. They drag it out endlessly, clearly hoping you’ll give up. Spoiler: most people probably do, which is why they keep doing it.
If you value your time, your money, and your sanity, choose literally anywhere else. This place is a masterclass in how to turn tenants into ATMs.

This place not worth the struggles. You’ll be assigned to people who don’t match up. Trash room absolutely horrific. Anything broken or worn they will charge to your account. Water is not accurate, honestly they just throw in fees when they feel like it.I know some students just don’t have any other affordable options and truly I understand your struggle. But IM BEGGING YOU to document before moving in. I’m so glad I did not renew my lease. Please just be careful living here between the car break ins, having items out of my car stolen I truly believe you’d be better off anywhere else but here. Please don’t take the warnings lightly like I did, you’ll be counting down the days till you move out or like some of my friends living somewhere completely different while paying the rent here! Best of luck!!

Others talk of excessive move out fees and fire alarms. My stay from 2023-2024 can corroborate these stories.

It’s kinda laughable how awful this place is. The people on the floor below me have parties every other night and always set the smoke alarm from smoking (who would’ve thought?), the people ABOVE me are constantly banging stuff on the ground at random hours of the night. They changed the wifi to what somethint they said was “more efficient” yet it’s actually ten times worse than it was before. It takes a good 10 minutes to download maybe 35mb of data at its worst. I have had an abundance of other issues and I’m kinda of just using this to vent my frustration over being essentially stuck here for one more year. xoxo

Its the worst student apartment that I have ever lived in. The management takes it's own sweet time to address the issues the residents have. Another incident was with our AC, soon after we moved in, which we had in summer in a non-working condition for a month, which also impacted my roommate's health. If I remember correctly, we were not provided any help with that. The fire alarm goes out in the middle of the night every week. And they just scam by making residents pay extra utilities at the time of move out. And also charge damages that are irrelevant and then that charge is explained completely differently when it's put on the portal for payment.

Lived here from Aug 2021 to July 2025. The rent is cheap, but that is where the positives stop. The fire alarms constantly go off, especially in the middle of the night. The “package room” is unorganized, and half of the time your packages aren’t scanned in. There were car break-ins constantly (including my own which was thousands of dollars to get fixed). Cars were also routinely stolen, yet there are still no security cameras or security personnel. My unit on the fourth floor had 3 different dryers, 4 different AC units, multiple leaks in the ceiling, and 2 refrigerators. It would be nearly 90 degrees in the summer with no AC, and it would take us begging to get a portable AC. The trash rooms are often overflowing, but the maintenance men have recently really started to help with that. Your water is based on the entire building’s usage, not your own. Thus, your water and sewer bill will stay high! Your unit will look nothing like the model because they never fully finished renovations with the furniture. The front office staff is rude and unhelpful. Often we would come to them with issues, just to be blown off. There was a point in which one of my random roommates allowed her boyfriend to live with us, and the front office told me there was nothing they could do. The boyfriend had guns out in the living room, and it took my threatening to call the police before they did anything. I genuinely cannot warn you enough against this place. If you want cheap rent and to be miserable, you at least have a heads up.

This place is a nightmare. I’m preparing to take legal action.
If you’re a student or international resident looking for housing — do NOT live here.
The building looks decent on the outside, but what happens after you move in is a completely different story:
• In the summer, there’s a party almost every weekend around the pool.
• Loud music, strangers walking in and out, and even people openly smoking weed — all ignored by management.
• The hallways and rooms are often dirty, and cockroaches are everywhere.
• Maintenance is slow, sometimes nonexistent.
• Communication from the leasing office is inconsistent at best.
What’s worse — after you move out, they’ll hit you with excessive move-out fees (in my case, 650 dollars), often with no valid explanation, no proper documentation. Many of the charges were for shared areas or normal wear and tear, yet they expect you to just accept it.
They seem to target short-term residents or international students who may not know how to fight back. But let me be clear:
I’m preparing to take this case to small claims court if they do not resolve it fairly.
Save yourself the stress, money, and legal headache. You can absolutely find better, safer, and quieter housing in the area.

If you’re a student, avoid Alight. Living here has been nothing but stressful and disappointing. The fire alarms go off constantly — sometimes multiple times in one night — with zero explanation from management. Safety clearly isn’t a priority: the garage gates are often left open, building doors unlocked, and there have been multiple car break-ins.
The trash chutes smell horrible and make the hallways gross. Roommate assignments are careless — I was never notified when they moved someone in, and one had a large dog she didn’t take care of. The entire apartment reeked, and when I asked the office for help, I was told “there’s not much we can do.”
The office staff is unhelpful and always changing, and getting a straight answer is nearly impossible. Oh, and my package was stolen — and they basically blamed me for it.
The only reliable part of this place is the maintenance team. Everyone else? Not worth the rent. Look literally anywhere else.

This place is ridiculous & that’s putting it lightly!! My kid is due to move out July 23; having to pay a FULL months rent is ridiculous. Clearly it should be pro-rated. They don’t even know what pro-rate means apparently. They are affordable & close to campus; that’s the only plus. They don’t fix things in a timely manner, you have to pay for parking & you car still gets broken in to. The whole while the office gives you the run around. Please find another place. NOT THIS PLACE!!!👎👎👎👎👎
