“What a nice selection of books, great coffee, and knowledgeable employees! Even in the busy Christmas season an employee took the time to have a conversation with us about an author's works that helped me make a decision about a gift for my husband. THANK YOU!”

“It had been a while since I had been in, and everything had been moved around. I was so confused. That was when I spotted Amanda moving and fixing a lower shelf of books. I asked her where a particular section of books was, and I just expected her to point me the right way. Nope. Amanda took me there personally. She went above and beyond. She was knowledgeable about the section, and we were able to talk recommendations. Amanda was very personable and wonderful. When I went to check out I didn't see anyone up at the front and then out of no where Sandarria popped up! Sandarria made check out wonderful, and easy. Thanks to these two employees for being wonderful!”

“I had a good experience at Calhoun back when. I attended Calhoun when they had satellite campuses all over the place. The main campus was (and I guess still is) in Decatur, and yes you had to attend a lot of classes there; however, they also had satellite classrooms on Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville High School and in "THE Mall" - yes where Barnes and Noble is now, only further down the mall - you had to hang a left at the western themed bar and it was on the east side of The Mall where Picadilly used to be. We always joked that if you leaned in closely enough to the cinder walls you could still hear the servers saying "Serve you, Serve you please?!?!?!" :D Because high school was such a breeze for me and really did not prepare me for college, I started UAH with a whopping 1.0 and yes, academic probation my first semester. I had no idea you could drop a class and really did *not* think the professors meant what they said when they assigned voluminous amounts of reading/coursework with only a day or so to accomplish it, and I paid for it with terrible grades my first semester. Enter Calhoun! Calhoun to the rescue! I took classes all over north Alabama or at least it felt like it with part time college professors and full time ones, too. Anyway, it was still hard work; however the staff were friendlier than UAH, more accommodating to those of us who worked, and had more of a smaller, diverse group of students. I still learned and I learned a LOT at Calhoun! I managed to pull my grades up to graduate with two associates at cum laude and transfer back to UAH to do the same with 1 BA cum laude. The tip for anyone planning to do a similar approach to getting a degree is to stay in touch with UAH and ensure each class and associated credit *will* transfer from Calhoun to UAH. To me, and I'm sure to any college student, these hours are pretty much worth gold and you don't want to lose them! Also, don't be afraid to take any issues where a credit is denied to the Dean (or higher if necessary) to argue your case. Pay attention to the handbooks (if that's a thing anymore) and ensure the classes align in terms of course content. Oh, and another good thing about Calhoun is you don't rack up 1000s of parking tickets by attending there.”

“Excellent student service. They work hard to get students in school. They were instituting a new tech system. There were some glitches but overall it made things easier and safer during the pandemic. I just appreciated the consistent support and southern hospitality.”

“They bought all my instructor copies and resold them online, since I wasn’t legally allowed to sell them online. They told me other companies are too lazy to check and probably won’t notice. Thanks!”

“Oakwood University certainly has a pristine, spacious campus of 1,186 acres and is a lovely addition to northwest Huntsville! From their website, Oakwood "offers quality Christian Education that emphasizes academic excellence, promotes harmonious development of mind, body, and spirit, and prepares leaders in service for God and humanity. The school's motto, shared by faculty and students, is: Enter to Learn, Depart to Serve. In everything it does, it believes and practices God First, its current slogan." I did not realize it was founded in 1896! Per the website the Seventh-day Adventist Church founded the college in 1896 as "Oakwood Industrial School." In 1943, it became "Oakwood College" and in 2008, it became "Oakwood University." Interestingly, the late great Richard Wayne Penniman, better known as rock & roller supreme Little Richard, is buried here. His funeral and burial occurred here on May 20, 2020 and was attended by approximately 150 people. Little Richard studied seminary at Oakwood during the late '50s. Oakwood is also home to Oakwood Farms with 12 cultivated plots and over 40-acres for future plants. Oakwood Farms is the only farm in Huntsville that provides farm fresh healthy organize produce to its own market, Oakwood Farms Market. The Oakwood Farms Market is home to the Oak Tree Bistro, a primarily vegetarian bistro.”
