I dropped in without any reservation (unannounced) on New Years Day 2026.
My father's health took a turn for worse just before Christmas. I needed to move him from Alabama to near me in Michigan so I can help look after him. I needed a U-Box pod to load his items, and a 10 foot U-Haul to move his items from his apartment to the U-Box at the Research Park U-Haul site.
Normally, you need to reserve your U-Box at least 24 hours in advance. If you do not, no promises, not even if you want to load it yourself on-site as I did.
However, Amanda checked, and only because a U-Box was available, she was able to secure it for me and help me out. They even moved it to the side of their large yard/lot so I could have easy unobstructed access to load it.
I finished loading it New Years Day. Then I locked it and released it to them for shipping to Michigan. Amanda said the promise date (earliest available) in Michigan was 12-Jan, but they often arrive sooner. I got a text message that it arrived at the Rochester Hills, Michigan U-Haul on 4-Jan. FAST! Good thing they'll store it for free for the first month, until my Dad is ready to move to Independent Living. He's still in rehab for now.
I just wanted to take time to leave this review. Everything was clean and smooth. Excellent customer service.
Also, do note that while NOT guaranteed... it would seem that U-Haul is transitioning from the plywood + canvas-cover U-boxes to ones made of galvanized steel and (I think) fiberglass (I think maybe epoxied plywood floor). Very nice boxes! The new boxes still have vents. They also have tie-down rings inside. Well built. Sturdy. The old/original wooden ones still seem to be around, but at Research Park U-Haul, most of the U-Boxes appeared to be steel + fiberglass.”
“The governors Drive location made up for the shortcomings of another location, located inside of a gas station. I understand that if you rent a truck and they have that truck in stock that it’s OK to go to the gas station and pick it up but if it Does not have the utility dolly and moving pads It makes the move almost impossible.”

“My wife and I got a Penske truck. Jessica helped us and she was very very busy at the time she was helping us, but she kicked butt. She was answering phone calls, moving the rental line (which includes Hertz) through very quickly, and being professional and quick. Even though we had to wait a little bit, I was impressed and pleased with her service. The 4 stars is because the management needs to do better at staffing the place so the employees aren’t working their tails off all the time.”

“I read a lot of these negative reviews, and I don't know what y'all talking about. Both folks in the shop on an early Friday morning were nothing if not professional, considerate, and kind. They're still the best price for installing hitches and wiring harnesses of any mechanic shop in town ($400!!) and took the time to show me all the ins and outs, including a couple of tips I didn't know. This is the 3rd hitch I've put on vehicles at this particular location over 10 years.”
