I've been wanting to visit here for literally YEARS so it was an absolute joy to finally be able to do so. The town fair happening outside was a lovely bonus addition! You can visit the ground floor of the museum for free; there's a $5 fee (as of November 2023) to go upstairs. But of course you MUST go upstairs since from there you can see the whole courthouse and sit in the galleries. It's self-guided so you can see whatever you like and spend as long as you like; it's uncanny how similar it all looks to the movie (though as they'll tell you when you arrive, nothing was actually filmed there - it was meticulously recreated on a Hollywood sound stage). If you're a Mockingbird fan then this is a must. Hopefully you'll get a few moments when there's no one else too close by, so you can sit on a bench seat and look down into the main room and hear the echo - "Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passing."

If you enjoy To Kill a Mockingbird, this was really interesting. Amazing to see the inspiration for the trial setting in the film

Truman Capote exhibit, Harper Lee exhibit, and the preserved old courthouse room are must-see for literary road trip types like us. Hugely friendly reception from Gracie, local black lab and resident greeter, and a peaceful, informative, well organized tour that costs only $5 to do and takes less than an hour. Thank you to Monroeville for the hospitality!

This is something Alabama can be proud of. It is a great example of the grand old courthouses that were once a source of pride for the various jurisdictions.

When you walk in the doors of the Old Monroe County Courthouse, you can just feel yourself walking back in time! It still looks the same as when I was a child. The museum is an unguided tour of the courtroom and the little adjacent rooms. It's in one of these rooms that a video is playing. It's on this video that my grandmother speaks about her experience growing up in Monroeville. I took my son & my niece to see that video, and then we spent a few minutes in the courtroom. My great-great grandfather (and their great-great-great grandfather) was a judge in that courtroom, so that was pretty cool to think about.

If you have read Harper Lee or Truman Capote, and you are there, you MUST stop in. If you are there for their play of "Mockingbird', so much the better! The folks running the place are wonderful, as they spent half an hour trying to find walking stick badges for us.Don't let the $5 admission scare you, as we almost did. The BEST $5 we spent! And walk the grounds, see the sculptures and monuments.12 out of 10!

Had a great time watching “To Kill A Mockingbird” at the Old Courthouse Museum. Maybe a little over acting, but otherwise a fine performance.

This was a cute, little museum packed full of information. We got a personal introduction and then were allowed to explore. It's only a $5 entry fee.

This is a great little slice of well-preserved 1930's small southern town court life, with the recreated law offices and the beautiful oval courtroom. The displays are well done and the gift shop is amazing! Just step in there if nothing else. Well worth a trip, especially if you're a reader.
