Post Offices near Rainsville, AL

“Came here because my husband and I wanted to get our passports and passport cards. We have never had a passport done before so we made sure we had everything we needed before arriving so it went smoothly. We live in Ider, but this was our closest one that does it unless we went to Trenton, GA. Trenton is closer for us, but we were needing to be in the rainsville area already anyway. FYI: not every post office can do this, so check with yours first. We did not have an appt time although it is recommended online, so we did a walk in. Barely made it by their walk in times, but they still let us do it no problem seeing as it was literally the only time we could do it due to my husband's work schedule. I dont know if they're strict about the time frames or not. It wasn't busy at all when we arrived that morning though, and they didn't even question it. They just let us do it. We brought prefilled paperwork to give them that we had done online, but our printer printed the paperwork out too lightly so their system wouldn't take it, so they gave us another copy of paperwork to fill out. Gave them a copy of our license and had to give them our original birth certificates to send off with it (they have to send original BC, it cannot be a copy- you'll get your original back in the mail separately from your passports). Everything online says you need to bring your ssc too but she said she didn't need it when we presented it. They took our passport pictures for us and gave us a copy of them (this costs extra if you have them do it) (you can bring your own if you prefer as long as it meets passport requirements). My husband had to take his picture twice because you couldn't see his ears. His ears sit flat by his head. So pictures for your passport are picky and particular for what can and can't be seen/done, so if you're unsure if your picture will work just have them do it. It's worth it to know it's done right. They put all the info in the system, we paid the fees, got our receipts, and that was it. In 4-8 wks we'll have it in the mail. We did normal processing times. Simple process and friendly, professional post office workers. We dealt with a man and a woman working together to help take care of us in between dealing with other customers and they answered all our questions. If you need a passport done, I highly recommend them doing it! I honestly thought it was going to be more difficult, but it wasn't at all. Simple and smooth. Great experience! “This is the best USPS office I have ever dealt with. I do a lot of shipping/receiving on a daily basis with this location. The staff there is always polite and willing to help with any concerns I have. Currently the Birmingham distribution center has been the cause of a lot of issues that are mostly out of the control of this location, yet they still go above and beyond my expectations to help me get them resolved to the best of their ability.
