Now, Howling Peaks is the only place I trust daycare, training, and boarding. What a positive difference it helped for my shy puppy! I recently adopted my dog about 5 months ago and it has helped her from anxious/nervous to confident/socialized dog and overgrow her separating anxiety.
Holly has been incredibly helpful with our private training session and day training. Before, it was frustrating to bring my dog out on walks because I would always get dragged at the end of the lead. After a few sessions (and ongoing training at home) my dog's leash manners has improved DRASTICALLY! This is the only place that I highly recommend to my other pet parents for any doggy services.

8811 Toloff St, AnchorageI can’t thank the team enough for the incredible care they gave my dog, Valhalla.
A special thank you to Amanda. She wasn’t even Valhalla’s assigned nurse, but the moment I needed help, she and Dr. Mehlman stepped in without hesitation. After Valhalla was sedated for his X-rays, I took him to my car while I waited for my final bill. I checked on him several times, and the last time I found him foaming at the mouth from the sedation medication and having diarrhea. It was very scary to see, so I immediately let the front desk know. Amanda and Dr. Mehlman rushed outside to help without a second’s hesitation.
Amanda showed so much compassion and kindness. She held Valhalla with such love and comfort, even though she ended up covered in his diarrhea, saliva, and dog hair. Not once did she complain or make me feel embarrassed about the situation. I even tried to wipe her hands off, and she simply told me not to worry about it because her only concern was making sure Valhalla was okay. That level of compassion, selflessness, and professionalism is something I’ll never forget.
Dr. Mehlman immediately jumped into action with calmness and confidence, which brought me so much comfort during a very scary moment. Knowing Valhalla was in such capable hands meant everything to me.
I also want to thank Valhalla’s nurse, Nora, who brought me a blanket for my car, puppy pads, and a bag so I could clean everything up afterward. Her thoughtfulness and kindness made a difficult situation so much easier.
Amanda, Dr. Mehlman, Nora, and the entire team reminded me what compassionate veterinary care truly looks like. Thank you for treating Valhalla as if he were your own. I will never forget the kindness, professionalism, and genuine love you showed us that day. We are so grateful for the exceptional care you gave my sweet boy.

We have a fear reactive dog and the staff are so understanding and have helped our dog be more confident all around. The other vets at VCA Lake Otis have also been amazing. My dog Kevin and I moved to Anchorage in 2021 and he’s been a patient here ever since. Kevin is now 16 years old and though health-wise the past 16 months have been really hard, I totally credit Dr. Lindquist and the staff here for him still being alive and having a great quality of life considering his age and with his diagnoses.
We are in quite frequently for integrative medicine visits, dental procedures, surgeries, and the occasional acute illness exam, and I just love how much the front desk staff, the techs, and the docs adore Kevin. They show him so much love which makes us both really happy and more at ease.
I’ve always been really pleased with the communication and the convenience of being able to text them with questions or updates. They’re able to relay that information to Dr. Lindquist, put it in Kevin’s file, and get back to me with any answers or follow up.
I also appreciate how patient they are with me through all of my questions and during really emotional appointments. They are honest, take their time, listen, and explain things well.
I am always singing their praises and referring people and will continue to do so.

The team is fantastic.
At his most recent visit Dr Averill recommended an enzyme toothpaste and after 2 applications (which my pup handles effortlessly) there is a visible reduction in his tartar buildup! Some of the worst areas are actually chipping away and his breath is SO MUCH BETTER! This guidance was topnotch and will significantly improve my pups health

I often pick him up close to closing and never get any pushback. The business is ran by very professional and kind gentlemen in a cute and convenient location, and their pricing is amazing. (The 1 star reviews doesn’t even make sense…its pride month and they do have pride gear on their property, they’re located next to a bar that also flies a pride flag. I’m almost positive the people giving Arfie’s a one star review had the wrong business). Happy pride month guys!

My Frenchie is 2 and he loves going there, he gets so excited to see the girls they absolutely love him! All of the girls that work there have been there for over 10 years which says something about the Owner. They are all so accommodating to my crazy schedule and it always makes me feel good when I see how happy Barron is when he gets there! I drive off knowing he’s in good hands.

Alaska Humane Society Adopt-a-Cat Shelter
1200 E 76th Ave #1224, AnchorageI had no idea how huge this place is, so many beautiful and different felines. The personality of the cats as well as how long some have been here is astounding. I give props to the many volunteers who make this possible for cat lovers, and adopting special cats. I brought my friend who was interested in a cat, she was able to sit and visit with the cats and relax. The result was Saturday she came back and adopted a beautiful cat for a loving companion, to help and heal each other. Thank you all so much.

8301 Petersburg St, AnchorageWe had to bring our uncle's cat here after he abruptly had to leave his home in Alaska. We tried very hard to rehome the cat, and we were desperate to make sure they had the best chance possible to find a new home. The staff here were extremely kind and accommodating and wonderful and patient and helpful!! Within 24 hours we were able to find our Kitty a place here so that they were able to have a shot at a new home and a new life thanks to these wonderful folks! If you are ever desperate or in a hard situation and need help these are your people they have lots of resources and knowledge!
