A different, clearly predatory shop (they barely tried to hide it) was trying to convince me I needed to replace my head gasket.Hale’s was able to tentatively diagnose it—over the phone—as a sound coming from the timing chain tensioner. I brought it into their shop and turns out they were correct.My car is now working perfectly well—better than it has in at least 2 years—and the issues are gone.Very knowledgeable, very friendly folks, who aren’t in the business of price-gouging. They saved me at least 94% of the costs that I would have paid if I had stuck with the other shop—$230 vs ~$4000, all things considered. “If you call that number, a recording says he is only doing "bench work" right now. I didn't know what that means, so I called the cell phone number in the recording. I thought I might need my transmission to be rebuilt. He said he couldn't do that for me, but he asked about the problem and gave a very detailed description of a much simpler solution. He even said I could give his number to my mechanic down here in Homer, and he could relay the technical details. At no point did he mention money, and he wished me a Merry Christmas.People who are this personable and walk with that kind of integrity are a rare thing these days. If he can help with your vehicle, I have every confidence that he will do you right.”
