Visiting Calgary from Ontario and had a phenomenal shopping experience at Rubaiyat. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive and cater to all your purchasing needs. What a beautiful store front too with amazing hand crafted items from all over the world. Go in person, you won’t be disappointed.

Just finished the most pleasurable shopping experience at Rubaiyat.
The staff were incredibly welcoming, knowledgeable and professional throughout my visit and helped me make a perfect purchase.
What a unique and eclectic business, like walking through an art gallery or museum where everything’s for sale.
I’ll be back for more. Highly recommend popping your head in when on 17th Ave.
Thanks again for making my day.

Loved their Christmas setup and wide range of fun ornaments! Morgan is always very helpful and the store offers a wide range of products. I was on the hunt for a Chilewich rug and Morgan helped me find exactly the perfect one - even taking me down to the storage room to hunt around. An iconic Calgary boutique!

A very nice place to wander and look, but I’d take my business elsewhere rather than deal with the rude employees. A shame considering the beautiful things they have.

I love rubaiyat jewelry however, I find the employees extremely rude and condescending. As a young female who adores nice jewelry, this store is so unwelcoming, even to a potential client. I have been and continue to be disappointed by the employees and atmosphere. Please do better and help customers feel more comfortable!

Growing up in Calgary, I have always adored Rubaiyat. Their uniquely curated selection of jewelry, lovely window displays and general welcoming ambiance always made it feel special to visit. How lucky did I feel when my partner proposed with just that?! A beautiful engagement ring from Rubaiyat.Staring at it constantly, I thought I had seen an inclusion. This was odd because the certification that came with the ring ensured its quality was one where you would not be able to see inclusions with the naked eye. Not able to shake off this weird feeling, I went to a different jewelry store for an informal appraisal. The jeweller confirmed that the serial number lasered on the diamond did not match the serial number listed in the certification we were provided with the ring. Not only was it the wrong ring, what was supposed to be a VS2 quality diamond was estimated to be an S1 at best.I didn't know what to expect when I called to let them know about the mistake but the last thing I expected was to be made to feel like it was my fault and little could be done to rectify this error, that at the end of the day might have had legal consequences. To quote the call, which was with one of the owners, I was told "we don't do things like that" and "we've been in business for over 48 years and this has never happened before". I had to clarify that I was not making an accusation nor a judgement of the situation; I was in shock, upset and just wanted to find some sort of explanation that could make the situation the opposite of what it was. I asked to come into the store to speak in person. During the conversation, not only did we fail to find the cause of this error, I received a lukewarm apology and no reassurances that this would be made right. I was asked to give the store some time to figure out what happened and to meet again the next morning. When we did, the store could still not verify the cause of the error, nor could they locate the proper ring belonging to the certification we were given with our ring. To my knowledge, there is still a possibility that another client of Rubaiyat purchased a ring of a much higher quality than they are aware of.The only option we were offered was a refund. There was no offer to make things right in any other way; to replace the centre stone with the correct quality, alternate rings within the same price point, any type of gesture that would have acknowledged the emotional distress this situation impressed on me and my partner. When purchasing items that represent significant milestones, you make your choice partly due to the experience. Mistakes happen, what was most disappointing and hurtful about this experience was how it was handled. There are details I am excluding due to length, but bottom line is: my partner proposed with this ring, our pictures of this moment include this ring, we showed the ring to many of our friends and family members and now this experience with Rubaiyat is linked with what was supposed to be a solely joyous and loving time. We returned the ring and left the store feeling so sad, a bit embarrassed (as though somehow we should have known) and deflated. Lacklustre accountability and poor customer service and care are not words I associated with Rubaiyat. Now they are.Since then, we worked with Alberta Diamond Exchange and designed a beautiful ring. Working with ADX helped restore our trust in the process and at the end, we had a fun and meaningful time. I decided to write this review as a final act of closure with the intent to share my learnings: always get a second opinion before purchasing and trust your intuition! It's been a few months since this occurred and when I think about our experience with Rubaiyat, I just feel like it was all such a shame. This could have been handled better, with much more care and empathy for the customer. This review would have read differently.
