A couple weeks ago I was around Mission area and decided to have a look at this place. When I got in I immediately had to leave because of a terrible smell of rotting meat.
Probably something extremely odd may have happened that day, considering all the good reviews about this place.

I stopped going here after getting chicken thighs that smelled off (over a year ago). Vacuum sealed chicken that was packaged same day.I recently decided to give them another chance and got a rack of pork ribs. Upon opening the vacuum seal I could smell that they were not good. They smelled rotten/sulfur-ish even after letting them air. I've never had fresh pork smell so bad. I had other people give them a whiff to make sure and they concurred, it smelled bad. This is the type of thing I expect from a chain grocery store, not a butcher.Staff are friendly and nice environment. I hate leaving bad reviews but this is not the first time.

Fantastic butcher shop in Calgary, would highly recommend to anyone. The butchers here are knowledgeable and friendly. They even custom cut for me as I like thick steaks to serve as family style. I enjoyed shopping here during my first time in Calgary, wanted to bring back amazing steaks to cook for dinner. Meat was tender and juicy, with a great marble. I will most definitely come back on my next visit to Calgary. Thanks again Urban Butcher!

The place is great, the staff is extremely helpful. DO NOT BUY THE FARM RAISED DUCK. I don’t know what they do, they get it from another distributor, but I’ve never had something so gamey. I love duck and lamb but this was something else, you could taste it through the sauce you eat it with. Other than that, great selection and even better looking meat.

We've been buying from Urban Butcher in mission for years. We most recently visited Urban Butcher on June 11 to grab some nice steaks to BBQ. We always purchase their Striploins as they are the best quality in town. They were around 14-15oz per steak which came to $25 a steak, but it was seriously the best homemade steak I've ever had. To compare, a 12 oz Steak at The Keg will cost you $44 minimum.... Buy your steaks here, and grill them at home for HALF the price. All you need is some nice salt, seasoning, and 11 minutes, and you have the perfect Medium-Rare steak. We will continue to buy our steaks from Urban Butcher as we've never been disappointed.

Love this spot. Consistent high quality local meats both fresh and frozen. All of the beef has great marbling regardless of the cut and their chicken always turns out tender. Considering the source of the meat it is very reasonably priced and they have a great selection especially for a relatively small shop. Keep up the great work, fellas!

Worst customer service I’ve ever received. Whoever was at the front desk lastnight need training on how to interact with customers. I don’t normally leave reviews but that staff needs to spoken to. The product was also probably the worst I’ve purchase in the city.

Bought some pepperoni sticks and some wild boar bacon and the pepperoni sticks were excellent! These grass-fed beef sticks have an excellent pepperoni taste and are also very clean tasting if that makes sense. I've been trying out different brands, even at the farmers market and these are now one of my favorites! (My second favorite is one from a farm in Manitoba). They would make a great snack gift for a friend/loved one.Will comment on the boar bacon once I get to it later.
