This bank is a joke, I have the direct extension for the assistant manager, and I have called almost every day leaving voicemails as he has 2 large cheques from my previous pension to be put into my RRSP. I was first contacted by the assistant manager on Sept 12, 2024. Stating that he would phone me the next day to get the process moving forward in regards to depositing said cheques. That did not happen and now my calls are being avoided and not returned. I also work out of town and it takes me 45 minutes to get to okotoks so going to the bank during hours in which I’m sure the manager would be there is not feasible with out taking time off work. I don’t want to take off work to go up there for him to not be there either. Absolute joke, once this is dealt with I will be leaving Scotia bank and never going to look back.

I went in to give my proof of enrolment, and Elaine Whelahan was so helpful and had such a bright genuine smile! And was happy to help too! So nice meeting kind assistance when you’re new to banking independently:)

I’ve never written a bad review in my life. But this was the most unprofessional I have been treated. I was just in for a meeting to open a new account. I explained how important it was to have this account opened today as I had booked an appointment with my accountant tomorrow to switch banking information. I had planned this for over one week. Laura talked for over 45 minutes about different accounts and reward programs. At first I thought okay, maybe this will just be a longer appointment and go past the hour which was fine, I didn’t want to be rude. It was 6:53 and she goes “oh we will have to book you in for another appointment because we don’t have time to open the account today.” I was like seriously? I came in here to open an account? Like you knew how important this was to me and I had a very important appointment tomorrow which I now have to pay for and reschedule because I don’t have a new account to transfer the information to. She went and talked to her manager and I could hear her talking badly about me and laughing in the other room because I asked her to please stay a few more minutes and open it. She came back in with her manager and then proceeded to say “what kind of person would I be if I didn’t explain every detail of every account” all snooty with a smirk on her face. Talked down to me in front of her manager - and guess what… the manager didn’t even correct her. He didn’t care I had a lot to do tomorrow or over the weekend, they just wanted to go home. She laughed in my face because I was upset I didn’t want to book another appointment and waste another hour when I know it doesn’t take two appointments to open a basic chequing account. Laura and her boss were so unprofessional. If I acted that way at work I would be fired immediately. I’m in shock I was treated this way because she could not do her job in the time frame it’s supposed to take. To be frank, it shouldn’t of even taken an hour - let alone two or three. I Will never go back to this branch and I recommend no one else does. Rude and nose stuck in the air people. Only person who was outstanding and super nice was the lady at the front desk with the blonde hair. She should be the one dealing with people and getting a raise. Absolutely disgusted with how I was treated otherwise.

Scotiabank is the absolute WORST financial institution in Canada by far. I have had nothing but problems with them.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Always a large line up inside . Only 1 or 2 tellers at the front . I made an appointment to talk about mortgages . The gentlemen didn’t know the answers to any of my questions . Not polite at all . Told me he would get back to me because he was unsure . Why even bother booking me an appointment if the guy doesn’t know anything ? Considering moving everything away from these guys . The reviews on this branch are very accurate.

This bank froze my accounts and said I was a cyber criminal because I purchased crypto and choose to self-custody it. Major red flags as it shows they want to restrict our freedom with our money

Unbelievably unprofessional. They phantom charged me and did not bother to inform. When I contacted them regarding it they didn’t even know what they were doing but offered no solutions or explanation. Unhelpful rude staff throughout this bank. Save yourself the headache and the credit damage and go to another bank. -5 stars.

I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with Scotia. My father passed away in August 2023 and he had several bank accounts with different banks. Every other bank has been a pleasure to work with and we have had access my fathers fund for quite sometime but this bank Scotia has been my worse nightmare. Not only was the assistant manager Alister(sp?) not sympathetic, he has not updated me nor returned any of my calls in over a month after dropping all the necessary paperwork off and telling him I do not want to open an estates account with them as we chose another bank. I am now stuck waiting on them. They are literally the only thing holding us back from closing this chapter in our lives so we can grieve.

I don’t have the option of leaving zero stars. After going to the bank at the end of my work day to deposit my cheque , during the hours they have listed online. In order to avoid the 5 day hold on the funds I deposit directly with a bank teller. I arrive at roughly 6:10 pm and advised that no tellers are working to accept deposits. And I could deposit via the app or through the bank machine.I was trying to ask for clarification regarding the bank hold when I was cut off mid sentence. I then tried to explain that I had made arrangements with my banker to have the hold removed from my account on the condition that I deposit it during business hours and in person. At the bank. I was cut off again. Belittled and treated like a criminal. Phrases that included fraud were being tossed around and threats of reprimand to whoever accommodated my bank deposits. All the time she had taken to scold me on my employers choice to write my payroll cheque she could have deposited my cheque. So now in order for me to avoid a 5 day hold. I need to book time off work to deposit my cheque in person. Mel Fry should not be employed with any position that requires finesse and or customer service. She is dehumanizing and disrespectful. Her behaviour alone is the reason I’m choosing another financial institution. Awful management, awful customer service.

Absolute worst financial institution available. Move all your accounts to TD, they have excellent customer service

Worst customer service and I agree with others, 0 stars should be an option. Lori Ryder, Mellissa Fry and branch manager Patrick are all inconsiderate, incompetent who don’t offer any financial advice which is Scotiabanks moto. They take advantage of customer’s situations and prey on their weaknesses.

If zero stars were only an option. Worst institution I’ve quite honestly ever dealt with. Incompetent, inconsiderate & plain rude. The assistant manager Melissa should not be employed.
