spent over 2 hours (4+ calls) with the central appointment line to make an appointment to see the orthro doctor, yet this department kept wanting to send me to phoenix office instead of tempe location. 3 separate calls to tempe to confirm they have the doctors there for what i need. no one wants to do a 3 way phone call to clear this mess, so after 2 hours still no appointment. mayo this isn't what i expected from an institution like this.

I Had three very interesting conversations with Mayo today. Called Dr. Michael Bryan's office to make an appointment about lower back and hip issues. Wanted to start the process for hip repair or replacement. Nurse Halley was very nice and considerate taking my info. She attempted to make an appointment and said there seems to be a problem and transferred me to Garrett an account specialist. He informed me I have been deleted as a patient because it has been over 3 years since I have seen Dr.Michael Bryan June 2020 actually 3 years and 6 months for COVID testing. I said to him I'm in my portal and I see over 250 lab results and over 300 physician summaries since Aug of 2005. I've been a patient over 17 years. He said he was sorry and there is nothing he can do. He then sent me to his supervisor Kassie. She said she was sorry that I was deleted from Mayo and they are not taking any new patients. I said I'm not a new patient. I said to her when I was working we were told years ago to establish a family Mayo physician with Dr. Michael Bryan so when you retire your grandfathered in for life. No body ever said to me to make sure you go in once a year to keep current. I have a portal and I read my messages. Why did I not get some reminder to come in as my 3 year inactivity would cause account deletion infact the most recent mail I have is from Carol Carrillo dated 09/28/2022 to make sure I have regular Medicare and a supplement. . I asked Kassie to speak to another supervisor and she was sorry and implied she was it. Times are changing, we are being canceled and slowly erased from existence. Retirement is not what I thought it would be.

My wife spilt her head open at our family Christmas Air BnB and the entire staff from the receptionist, to the nurse(s), the resident Maggie, to the attending were absolutely wonderful. Couldn't have asked for a better experience during something so negative. We appreciate you all!

Took my wife to the ED at Mayo Phoenix. Staff etc nice. The issue is Security at Mayo Phoenix. Very unprofessional. They defiantly need trained on de-escalation techniques. They should actually be wearing body cameras in my opinion. They also refuse FOIA requests Mayo is a private hospital but they receive government funding so they are subject to FOIA requests for Video coverage reports written etc. They seriously need to be trained on interacting with people. and de-escalation techniques. ex Leo what I observed was a circus.

After spending nearly 45 minutes completing a profile on-line, I was ultimately directed to call the local hospital to schedule for new patient. My first call I entered the requested information and placed on hold for about 5 minutes before being hung up on. I called back and explained the situation to the operator and she communicated a 15 minute wait time. As a result, I have decided to go elsewhere for my medical needs because if Mayo is this incompetent in handling registration I can only imagine how bad the medical treatment might be.

Called to inquire about getting a new patient appointment. The person said they didn't have access to schedules or know anything about how the financial assistance worked. They said I would have to pay $5000 if I wanted to be seen since I have Medicaid.

This is a new facility and absolutely gorgeous. You may not think that matters for an emergency room, but it actually added to make it a more calming experience. I was in the emergency room for 24 hours with a family member over the weekend and I can't stress enough how kind and helpful the staff was on duty. I came and went several times and each time security has to walk you back in. They were never annoyed and always kind and concerned. I was there so long that the people on the night shift from the first night were arriving for their shift the next day, and a number of people stopped in to say hello. The only thing that was really frustrating was the staffing gap in some of the services provided. When your situation depends on the staff working on your case, and there is a two hour gap between the a.m. and p.m. shift, it can be frustrating to know that nothing is getting done. Eventually, everything was wrapped up, though, and it was as pleasant an experience, as it can be, considering where I spent my day. I am grateful to everyone who worked over the weekend.

I tore my Achilles and headed to Mayo Emergency last December. They confirmed it, stabilized it, and set me up with their orthopedic surgery and physical therapy sports medicine crew in Tempe. A year later I am back on my feet, strong and confident, thanks to these wonderful people. It was tough but their talent, expertise and care got me through the other side of this injury. I am so grateful. Thank you!

Our daughter received horrible care at this facility. She went here for a stem cell transplant in Sept. of 2022. The doctor she had, an Eastern Indian woman (I will only say this and not give her name) knew our daughter had an aggressive form of AML. She was aware that a trial prior to transplant could help. Why didn't she call MD Anderson in Houston, where they have approx. 90 clinical trials for AML, and ask them to see our daughter give her rare and aggressive form of AML? The answer is she was a horrible doctor. Clinical trials are covered 100%. When our daughter relapsed 5+ months after the transplant, even when on maint. therapy, the doctor acted surprised. What a sham, and so condescending like all of the Mayo doctors I saw. They all knew this was a very aggressive form of AML. They should have called a family meeting directly after relapse and implored that our daughter go to MD Anderson. Instead this pathetic "doctor" said: "I don't know anything about trials." Mom, me, had to spend 10+ hours that weekend searching for trials. Nobody at the "great" Mayo helped. Great my carcass! When our daughter entered a trial with City of Hope this Indian doctor never followed what was going on. She let our daughter go 6+ weeks post relapse with nothing-no immunotherapy nor chemo. Well, then our daughter ended up in ICU at Mayo and eventually died 6 weeks later, never getting to really escape their jail. We filed formal complaints to the Arizona Medical Board against several of their "hematologists" but I have not heard of anything coming of it as of yet. This Indian woman "doctor" especially needs to lose her license and be fired from Mayo. We deserve a letter confirming the disciplinary action against her. I have not received any such communication. What a sham!

Ordered a test that was not approved by insurance and now I am on the hook for six thousand dollars. Slow to respond; if you are lucky to get through the gatekeeper nurse answering secure messages. Will be in a hurry to get done with your visit. A very uncaring doctor collecting a paycheck. Still has not diagnosed, nor been able to tell me what is wrong. I live with abdominal pain and have abnormal imaging with no answers. Mayo Clinic failed me and they do not care.

My surgery went well. It was the aftercare when I had an insurance change that went south. I was told we are a business and you need to see someone else. Problem was this was 2022 and getting in with someone was extremely difficult. I had a balance from my surgery and was asked to pay it in full. I did that and they closed my file by me finding an appointment I could get with a physician at Walgreens of all places, but this was all I could find. They didn't care and just wanted me out because of an insurance change. Again, their words, "this is a business" was what I was told from them. Keep in mind they closed my open heart surgery file being ok with letting me go to a Dr. at Walgreens. Something close to a year later they sent a message into an app portal they have with you about another $299 they wanted. They billed my insurance at something like 70k too beyond the thousands I paid myself already. Why would I ever go back into that portal if they had already given me the boot and I paid my balance in full as they requested. Without even knowing I had this bill they sent it to collections. When I tried to connect with them on this they just said deal with collections! Now I have this on my credit on a balance I had already paid in full as they asked. If this is what "we are a business" looks like I would not advise business with them.

The specialists are immensely talented--indeed, generally speaking, the very best available in the state. My experience with the cardiac, orthopaedic, and GI staff emphatically bear this out. That having been said, you need to consider carefully whether Mayo provides competent routine care and adequately addresses care in less-then-grave conditions. My experience is that it does not. Specifically: 1. The primary care function is NOT distinguished, is NOT patient-friendly or patient-reponsive, and does NOT consistently--or even frequently--evidence Mayo's signature team-care approach. 2. Scheduling is a travail, and wait times are outlandishly long and getting more so. I recently had a consult on a GI matter that involved pain, loss of appetite, and weight loss--and am now, more than two months later, still waiting for a follow-up consult to advise on treatment, after a parade of interim tests (CT, MRI, endoscopy) that seem to have very plainly identified a routine, non-malignant ulcer. 3. Inpatient care is competent in its very best iteration, but a LONG ways from outstanding. Nursing staff appear are overtaxed and not, from my perspective as a patient, the peers of the physician specialists in terms of relative skill. Several openly complained to me of patient loads, which was a bit distressing. I have enjoyed (and family members have enjoyed) inpatient care that is VASTLY superior at other hospitals that are Mayo's peers. 4. The business function of the hospital IS UTTERLY INCOMPETENT. I cannot overstate this. I have spent dozens upon dozens of hours trying to resolve charges for care that Mayo providers did not clear with my insurer--and, I should say, I have a superior Blue Cross plan that itself is absolutely superb at claims. I am lucky to be in a position that I can settle claims and await reimbursement. If a patient weren't in this position, dealing with Mayo's billing office would be disqualifying. Short story: There must be better choices than Mayo Clinic for routine health care in a metro area of 5 million souls, and I am actively looking for it.
