Picacho Peak State Park is a historic and beautiful Sonoran Desert park located between Phoenix and Tucson just off I-10. It is home to some of the best wildflower displays in Arizona and offers amazing hiking opportunities with moderate to intermediate and rough trails, including cables for the more difficult parts. The views from the summit are very nice. It features a spacious campground with great camp sites, though picnic tables and fire pits are not convenient to some. The park is far enough from the road that you don't hear a lot of traffic. Amenities include a cute visitor center, disebos, small picnic areas, restrooms with showers, and electric hookups, though visitors must bring their own water.
We did the star gazing event - Evan and Greg were amazing! Lots of great information, they answered a ton of questions, and were just happy to share. Beautiful evening, would definitely do again. Amazing hike. This hike is no joke (even though its only less than 3 miles round trip). Like on any hike, bring plenty of water, snacks, and gloves are recommended. 7 dollars for entrance and parking fee for the park.
