I spent three days camping at Picacho Peak State Park. The sites are nicely spaced apart from your neighbor campers, and the view of Picacho Peak is not hard to miss. Very nice facilities, picnic tables, fire rings, and friendly campers.I did a 9.30-mile loop hike starting from Sunset trailhead to Hunter trailhead. It took about 5-1/2 hours to complete the loop. I recommend taking the Sunset trail first since you'll be climbing up on the backside using the cable wires. Once you reach the Picacho Peak junction, you can choose to climb the peak, or continue with the loop hike. That is what I did. I started my hike from the campground and returned back to make a longer hike than what the trail map shows. The Calloway trail is a nice but much shorter trail. This trail climbs slightly, but you'll have a great view of Mt. Lemmon near Tucson. It was snow-covered in late February. The moon bow and sunset were just gorgeous with the desert landscape. If you happen to be driving by Picacho Peak SP, I recommend making this a nice stopover for a couple of days.Playground: One area has a playground in the picnic area by the visitor center.Restrooms: Most were opened and cleaned.Dog-friendliness: Some hiking trails and campground loops allow dogs. Many campers travel with a companion or two.Picnic area: Lots of sheltered picnic sites throughout.

Fun scramble with cables. Difficult hike. I wouldn't take my kids, but to each their own.

Been here 3 times in last 19 years. We enjoy desert camping. Average campground. Bathrooms are clean and showers don't take quarters. First 3 loops are all electric. Due to water shortages they don't have water hookups and you aren't allowed to fill your tanks here. So fill up before you come. Good hiking available. Very unsafe, no police presence or enforcement rangers.Playground: There is a playground here in the day use area, but it hasn't been updated in probably over 40 years.Restrooms: Out of 7 AZ state parks we've been to in the last 2 months this has the nicest bathrooms. Clean, well maintained. The ones in the campground even have little potted cactus plants on the counters.Picnic area: There are several picnic shelters with bbq's in the day use.

It was a beautiful day to go explore Picacho Peak State Park. We got to see a lot of the beautiful parks. We love how there are picnic areas for daytime use. As well as overnight stay places for your trailer or tents. Make sure to hike up for sunset point at sunset It has a beautiful view! A lot of history here. They have very nice hiking paths. Make sure you take time to come and explore it.Restrooms: The restrooms were nice and clean and very welcome.

Great place to stop off for a couple nights (or more) on our way to Bash! The cactuses are awesome, and the facilities are great! No notes.

Lovely State Park, RV campground and several hikes, easy to white knuckle. View from campground has view of very busy highway and train tracks but far in the distance. Looks like a horizontal Christmas tree at night. Rangers and volunteers around. Visitor center.Restrooms: Several scattered around.Dog-friendliness: On leashes.Picnic area: Several covered areas for picnics and cookouts.
