About Crater of Diamonds State Park

Crater of Diamonds State Park is a fun and unique place where visitors can search for real diamonds and gemstone rocks. The entrance fee is $15 per person, and visitors can spend the day digging, sifting, and exploring the diamond field. Most of the rocks found are small, and the soil is soft, making it easy to dig without a shovel—tools can be rented at the park or brought from home. Many people enjoy the peaceful and relaxing experience of hunting for diamonds, with some lucky visitors finding stones like jasper and lamproite. Although not everyone finds a diamond, the thrill of the hunt and the chance to discover interesting stones make the visit exciting. Rangers are available to identify and look at stones collected from the field. Visitors are advised to bring supplies such as gloves, buckets, wagons, snacks, and drinks, especially during the hotter months, as summer can be very hot and standing in cold water in winter can be chilly. The park is kid-friendly, with tables, restrooms, and a nearby waterpark for additional fun. Dogs are welcome but must stay on leash. Some visitors note that the area can get busy and that local behavior can sometimes be unfriendly. Overall, it’s a great spot for family fun, outdoor activity, and the chance to find a real diamond, making it a memorable experience for all ages.
