Ka-Do-Ha Indian Village Museum is a small, privately owned museum and historical site that offers an incredible and educational experience. Located right outside of town, it provides a real look at the Caddo way of life from 1000 years ago. The museum itself is small but has an exquisite and highly informative collection of arrowheads, pottery, and other good pieces. A remake of the Indian village helps visitors understand the history. The mounds on the site are a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience, presented in a way that gives a clear feeling for how they were created and what they contained. The site is very respectful to the Caddo people buried there. A major highlight is the arrowhead field, which is tilled for digging, where visitors can find arrowhead pieces, quartz, and pottery fragments. There is also a metal detecting field. The experience is affordable for big families. The staff is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The gift shop is well-priced and has a large variety of items, including artifacts and pottery for sale at reasonable amounts, alongside typical gift shop items. With shade trees at the dig site, it is a comfortable visit. For anyone interested in pre-Columbus or North American history and culture, this is a must-visit, underrated place that provides a much clearer picture into history. It is a wonderful, awesome find and a ten out of ten experience that many plan to visit again.
If you have ANY interest in pre-Columbus history of American, the people and their culture then you owe this place a visit. This small privately owned museum and former home of natives provides a much clearer picture into history than seen at every state park I have visited.
