I was actually happy with this company, as the car was great and also the whole administration was OK. Also as i returned the car in Calgary, everything went smooth, even though i made a few scratches in the front bumper during the vacation. They told me not to worry about it and that i'd not have to pay anything because the damage was so minor. I still filed an accident report, since i am an honest person. About one year later, i suddenly get an email from Thrifty, telling me to pay for the damage, even though i never even got a bill of any sorts (i didn't even know the amount i should have paied). I thought it was a scam, but i still answered the email and told them to send me the bill so i could pay. Nothing happened. A few months later, out of the blue, i got contacted by a dept collecting agency. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and shows me how unprofessional the whole work ethic at Thrifty is. Sorry, guys, but i'll never rent a car at Thrifty ever again, and i'll also warn any friends and family about that company.

I want to give them 0 stars, but at least 1 star. When I rented the car, they didn't tell me that the car was damaged. I booked the car online. They gave me a different car. Also, when I return the car, I forgot to take my speaker . I was pretty sure the speaker had to be in the car, but they said they couldn't find it. That speaker is Bose speaker for nearly $400, and I suspected that it might be taken by insiders because I was pretty sure I didn't get speaker off the car.

My cousin rent a car for suv car with gps but it didn’t give us a gps and said only for chip memory. The next day My cousin called and keep putting us on hold and hang up 10x even I pay extra money for that rental car. Until finally they said they want to see the car if it is actually doesn’t have gps. It’s really far where we live and make us drive just because to it’s not working, waste of my time. So they gave me the small car instead. The next day I’m leaving and return the rental car, this old lady Asian look like Thai, Vietnamese or Filipino accused us smoking in the car but my family doesn’t smoke. I told her it was like that before and she said I’m not charging you but just remind you don’t smoke in the car. I said ok but we did not smoke in the car. Then she said repeat herself again with an attitude and said if you want to argue and discuss we can go inside with the manager. I was furious and mad but all we said okay. First of all the lady should’ve ask instead of telling but stop telling us to remind not to smoke. We are not dumb , of course you don’t smoke in the car. I it was terrible service, customer service and rude people who works there and even accused of us that we smoke but we did not?

We rented with thrifty all over the world but customer service was shocking here. Our reservation was not available as ordered online and the staff at the counter was not willing to help or even acknowledge the issue at hand.

One of the WORST rental car experiences ever. Do NOT rent from this company if you value your time, money, and life. Due to my travel schedule, I rent cars quite often. With all the rental car companies I have rented from, there has never been as issue upon return. I am a very careful driver, and am cognizant of how I drive and park. These other rental companies have not had any issues with minor dings, rock chips, or scratches smaller than a golf ball, so I don't waste my time making note of it. Upon returning my rental vehicle back to Thrifty, the attendant took an absurdly long time reviewing the car. She found a quarter-sized scratch on the rear wheel (which was there prior to me driving the car out of the garage, but I didn't make note of it on the rental sheet), and proceeded to write a ticket for it. Needless to say, not only did my wife and I miss our flight because we had to wait for the attendant to make note of the scratch and process our return, but I was also sent a bill for $132 for the wheel repair. A $132 to repair a SCRATCH!!! Completely and absolutely ridiculous!!! I will NEVER rent from Thrifty again. I continue to tell my friends and family to AVOID renting from Thrifty because this rental company is just absolutely horrid. Their staff is unprofessional, and unfair, and their customer service is the absolute WORST!!! Save yourself time, money, and stress and rent from ALAMO or NATIONAL. You're welcome!

What the other reviewer said. It seems like their company's business is built around these anti-human practices. Offer low prices and actually make money catching customers who didn't notice every little bump in the windshield. We picked up a car with scratches _everywhere_ that's just generally not very cared for. We recorded the scratches on pretty much every single side of the body but when we came back, they went through this routine that seemed well rehearsed. They didn't even bother looking at the bigger scratches and picked a small barely visible chip in the windshield that they decided to charge us for. They also offered some gas refill deal that they emphasized entirely on the per liter price which is cheaper than the price on the street. When we brought the car back, it turned into an all or nothing deal where they only refilled the entire tank for a fixed price. Since most customers probably can't plan their drive such that they run exactly out by the time they return the vehicle, most customers will be taken advantage of.Theoretically it was our fault that we weren't vigilant enough but it was their deliberate belligerence and the satisfaction on their face when they spring the trap when you return the vehicle that makes their business dubious in legitimacy. I doubt they would even fix anything with the money they extract from tricked customers and leave the damage on the car to continue farming for money.

I absolutely, 100%, refuse to ever use this car rental company again. WORST possible service imaginable. Surprised they're still in business. Slow, Slow, Slow. Goofy way of operating. One clerk, 18 people in line. Ugh!! Do not reserve with them. Horrible!!

This whole company is a complete joke. The people working behind the counter and on the phone are all extremely rude and deplorable. Everyone who works there should be disgusted of themselves. Words cannot describe how terrible this place is. I can't even comment on their service because it was non-existence. The entire experience definitely left a foul taste in my mouth and I will never ever use this rental garbage again. They truly deserve to go out of business. Horrible!! Stay away! I really wish Yelp have zero stars. I wouldnt even recommend my worst enemy to them because that would give them business they do not deserve. I am totally outraged by the existence of this dishonourable and intolerable filth of a so called 'company'.

I booked my rental though Expedia and from there I had nothing but issues with the company. The car that I booked was a mid size car and Thrifty was going to provide me with one. After the agent knew the purpose of my visit she advise me that there was going ot be some bad weather and recommend that I upgrade to an AWD car. I agreed that the recommendation was a good idea. I took the Venza out for a drive in the city during rush hour to visit some family before heading out to the mountains and the car seemed okay. Only once I was in the mountains (approximately 80 km away from YVR) hitting the speed limits of 110 kph I started to feel vibrations in the wheel and the car was pulling to the right. Once I got to my rest point I called the company and was telling an agent about the issues with the car. She advised me if it is still rolls it was okay to drive and she will make a note and compensate me when I return. After I returned to YVR I brought up the complaint about the car's maintenance and the agent that was helping me looked at me clueless and I told her they need to fix it before anyone else drives the car. Told me that she would make a note and was not going to compensate me of a car that did not work 100%. I then wanted to switch out the car for the car that I booked to travel the city. They advised me that I had to pay an additional 20 a day for a mid size car (VW Jetta Basic Model) This car had nothing in it and they wanted me to pay more? I complained no way but in the end lost the battle because I needed a car to drive. I have tried to call the head office many times and not once was I able to talk to an actual human being, but the funny thing is they have no issues contacting me to charge more to my cards after I asked the credit card company to status my credit card as lost/stolen. Needless to say, I don't recommend anyone use this rental company. I never had this much trouble with a rental company before.

Horrible. Don't rent a car from here. First of all - they didn't give me a brush or scraper in January (or jumper cables, or any car safety kit for that matter). I woke up the next day, and my car was completely iced over. Very dangerous not provide the basic necessities of driving. Second - their roadside assistance is shortsighted, inefficient and totally useless. My rear tire went flat - but under their insurance all repairs have to be coordinated through their roadside assistance or else you void the insurance policy. It took them an hour to figure out who I was, and if I was covered under their policy. Only after that first hour was wasted, did they call a tow truck to come help me (who took another hour and half to arrive). When the tow truck arrived - he didn't bring me a new tire. Instead he instructed me that he was only to exchange my flat for the donut in the trunk, and that now I can't drive over 80 km/hour. The roadside assistance rep knew I was in a remote town, and that I had to drive back to the city (2 hours away) the next day to return the car. How they thought a donut was an adequate fix is beyond me. So I had to call roadside assistance again - get them to verify me again - only to find out that there was nothing they could do to help me. Instead, I had to waste my day finding a mechanic to get the tire patched, and then demand they refund me for the expense once I returned the car. Horrible, horrible service. Worse of all - when I returned the car and spoke to the manager - he was incredibly rude and condescending. When I explained that this ordeal had cost me an entire morning on set, instead of acting like a manager of a rental car company, he instead decided this was a good opportunity to tell me about his acting career. And wished me well in my career. I'll never rent from Thrifty again.

The whole service is a big joke. Please I mean please do yourself a favor and don't use them. Initial low rental price equals surpassingly high bill when you return your car and charges that will only keep coming to you months after you return your car. So called road violations etc... they won't even explain it to you just deduct from your visa card. Help line another joke. Never available, works on eastern time always busy - you are on hold forever and than transferred to another office that puts you on hold. Big disappointment.
