I just want to say that Ziem at Great Clips (152 St & 16th Ave, South Surrey) gave me the best haircut I've had in probably 15 years! Every time I go for a cut, I explain that I like it very short on top, and every time I seem to come away disappointed. Ziem listened to what I wanted, understood what I wanted and went about giving me exactly what I wanted! I'm so happy with the cut! I hope she stays at this location indefinitely, because I never want anyone else to cut my hair! I'm sorry I didn't give her a better tip, but I will definitely make up for it next time! Thank you, Ziem!!

I am a very basic, short hair in the warmer months, slightly longer in the colder ones type person and that is about all the thought I put into haircuts. Hence all I need is a place that provides good, no hassle, basic haircuts. And this Great Clips location is up to fulfilling that need. I have no doubt they offer a lot more than that but I am ignorant on what those services might be.
One thing I like is that if you are repeat customer they store your hair preferences on their computer so you to not have to repeat them every time you go in. Makes you feel a little bit like you are an important customer, for a fleeting half second anyway.
Today I was taken care of by a young friendly woman who I had not seen before. On arrival in late Saturday afternoon I was the only customer and so after providing my telephone number my preferences came up on screen (you cannot see the screen so you can fool yourself into thinking you must have left quite an impression on the hairstylist on the last visit if she remembers you and your preferences so well. Doesn’t work though when you are seeing someone for the first time!). I was immediately led to my comfortable chair. There were a number of other chairs around in the reasonably sized bright room and everything looked clean and tidy.
Before work started on my hair the hairdresser repeated to me my usual preferences just to make sure her information was correct and to check that was still what I wanted. I thought that was a nice double-check that prevented mistakes being made.
The conversation was light, bright and interesting and while that was going on my hair was being cut. Normally I am the more sitting silent until chore is over type of person but today was different for whatever reason and I had fun.
I have no idea what the general going rate for haircuts is these days but when I was told what I owed it was higher than I expected. I may have been biased though because when I started going to Great Clips it was a discount type of place where haircuts could be obtained for $9 and with a bit of luck you had a $2 off coupon. Now the cost is just short of three times that amount for the basic, increasing for any requirements beyond that. As I do not comparison shop for haircuts what I paid today could actually be quite competitive.
One thing I did before entering the store was a quick internet search for possible discount coupons. There were a few available, with some offering significant discounts, but they were only valid in the United States! For today at least, discounts for Canadian outlets were non-existent. To be fair though, my search was very brief and if I had hunted a bit longer I may have found some. Also according to the Great Clips website you could download their app and I imagine promotions would be available through that periodically.
Almost forgot to mention the important part - as to the actual haircut, I have no idea what constitutes a good haircut, but mine was good enough for me so I left happy (individual results may vary!). Will I return? Well, as I have been going there for years, it is certainly a probable, definite, possibility. I will follow the maxim that states if it is not broken why fix it?
