The Albany Branch YMCA is a small, community-focused gym with a welcoming atmosphere. It offers a great selection of group exercise classes, including yoga, Pilates, dance, Zumba, and senior strength training, which are described as fun, warm, and accessible. The facility is noted as being clean and well-maintained with new equipment. Staff members are consistently praised as nice, top-notch, and helpful. However, the gym's small size is a significant limitation. It lacks space for free movement, yoga, or breathing room between equipment. For serious resistance training, it is woefully lacking, with no barbells, squat rack, or proper bench press options. The selection of free weights is limited, though it does offer light hand weights that can be hard to find elsewhere. Cardio equipment is also impacted, with only one Peleton bike leading to frequent unavailability. The associated mobile app is reported as dodgy and prone to failing. While the classes are popular, many are often full. The gym is typically not very busy, even during peak times. Membership includes access to all East Bay YMCA locations. Overall, the Albany YMCA is best suited for those seeking cardio, calisthenics, light weights, or group classes to keep joints healthy and moving, rather than for foundational muscle building or comprehensive resistance training.
Clean. Lots of free weights and a deceit selection of weight training machines as well as other equipment.

Great community gym. Friendly helpful staff. Very clean. Reasonable COVID protection measures, such as distancing and cleaning the equipment after you use it.
