Visit a wide selection of California native animals in a nicely kept outdoor museum.
The Christmas lights here are absolutely amazing. I want to give a special shout out to Victoty Outreach for their role in helping to make this happen every year.
While visiting the animals do not miss your chance to board the Central California Childrens Railroad it is truely a special treat.

We were camping nearby and stopped here for the afternoon. It's a small local zoo with big plans. This is a great place to bring kids. They even have a train ride through an old western town. I'm giving it 5 stars because it's a great way to spend some time and they are working very hard. Though I wish some of the male employees didn't walk around with their pants down around their knees.

This place is an outside museum so be cautious of summer heat. They don't have many exhibits which is understandable. They help rehab the animals and put them back if possible into their natural habitat. They are under construction to expand etc. they also have a nice area to rent for weddings and events. They do lights for Christmas.

A great spot for casually enjoying animals and letting kids play. The staff is friendly, and the facilities are clean. I docked one star because a few animals were missing, but it’s understandable given the ongoing construction. The train ride is currently a bit underwhelming, but I imagine it will be much more exciting during the holiday season when the lights are on display. If you’re visiting during hot weather, be sure to bring sunscreen, an umbrella for shade as you walk and water. Overall, it’s a nice place to visit with family and friends for a relaxed experience. Plus, they offer free entry for Military personnel with ID, which is a nice perk.
I’m excited to see the future developments here; the potential is promising!

Small zoo, not a lot of big animals but if you’re a local it’s a great place to get out with the kids for the day. There’s a train that runs on the weekends, a small gift shop that does sell a few snack items (no cafe—yet). With a membership to CALM you can also get into Lori Brock. The CALM membership is so worth it in my opinion if you have little kids. It doesn’t ever seem to be super packed except maybe during the holiday lights (I’ve heard that gets pretty packed) and maybe if there’s a few field trips going on at once.

My wife, son, and I have a family membership here and like to visit at least once a week. They are regularly updating/renovating exhibits, have regularly scheduled events, and the staff are super friendly. Mornings in our opinion are the best. Animals seem the most active and the park is relatively empty.
Nice picnic area, playground, and killer gift shop. This is definitely our preferred outing when we venture.

We visit once a week. Calm is our safe space as new Bakersfield residents. Join their membership and spend all your money here. Wonderful organization that cares for their animals. Visit Ruby the woodpecker she is a cutie and check out their 20 year plan !
Staff is amazing and we see tons of volunteers, looking to be one myself once my little one gets a bit bigger . Love this place.

CALM is a great little zoo and museum. It is so family friendly. You will love it. It is only closed on Monday. The prices are great, we paid 10$ per adult for the whole day.Located in Bakersfield, which is fun, it is part of Kern County which has a lot to offer. The zoo is kept super clean and the staff is very friendly. It can get super hot in the summer so keep that in mind. It was fine the day we were there.CALM has grown from a locals-only attraction to an international destination point. Visitors from around the world are attracted to the zoo to see a variety of endangered species and California’s native species. You will get to see animals and plenty of plant life that you will never see at some zoos. They also have a rehab center for all manner of animals and your entrance fee helps to support that. You can also rent the entire place. I know nothing about it. You would need to call them. You will just have the best time at this little zoo on the hill. Have fun.
