“They were able to see my cat on the same day and the experience was pretty smooth as far as vet visits go. There wasn't a long wait time (obviously no one can guarantee this every time) and Dr. Van Kopp and the person helping him, I apologize for not knowing her name, was thorough. The front desk staff were also helpful.
Contacting via Email and phone is more reliable than the text option.
There is no annoying hold music nor ads because they are using old school phones.”

“I just called today and found out North of the river veterinarian hospital is closed. I know there is mixed reviews, but I was very happy and satisfied, not only with Dr. Virga, but his staff as well. I had no problems with any of their personalities, because they were who they are not who I wanted them to be. The most important thing to me was the care they gave our family members. I considered the care second to none and on top of that their pricing was very reasonable. They didn't try to take advantage of people who were desperate to get their pets healthy. Can somebody tell me another veterinarian in town that gives excellent care and does not take advantage of pet owners outrageous, and unnecessary costs? I'll wait.”

“If you own a horse, you know they can be expensive. It's not only food and boarding and equipment, they occasionally need medical care. If you are a pro-active horse owner, you can sometimes head off major medical expenses with preventive care. We use Bakersfield Large Animal Hospital for all our needs. There are three vets in residence and they are all very good. Dr. John Tolley is the head vet and heads the staff. Dr. Gonzales has the second longest tenure. He is very conscientious and great with the horses. Dr. Ordonez-Jones is the newest addition. He speaks Spanish. He graduated from Davis and came to Bakersfield. Every other year we take our horses in for dental work. Dr. Tolley did the horse's teeth this year. They use mechanical tools to get the teeth just right. (Horse's teeth grow throughout their life and have to be "shaped" on a regular basis). We like using Bakersfield Large Animal Hospital because all the doctors there are willing to talk to us, answer all our questions, and give alternative treatment programs. They also talk to each other. They will discuss cases and try to come up with the best diagnosis and treatments. When you're dealing with veterinary care, I consider this VERY important. The rest of the staff - Rudy, Katherine, and the others - are very good at handling the horses and keep things running smoothly. Bakersfield Large Animal is on Taft Hwy. They have a full service equine vet hospital.”
“A pack of stray PitBulls (4) Broke into my yard at 2:30am. They killed my Loyal German Shepard and my Miniature Donkey They mauled my miniature cow named Tuesday. I called every single Large animal Vet in Kern County begging for help to save my cows ears and left eye. (I know.... It's so horrible) she was bit everywhere and I was DEVASTATED. I couldn't find a single Vet willing to come out even after hours they all said sorry but NO!...... I was So Desperate and afraid I gave this Vet another call and spoke with the staff girls. I will be FOREVER GRATEFUL to these women for getting a DVM to at least prescribe antibiotics. They even stayed late (45 minutes) So I could make it there to pick up the Medication.. This Vet doesn't usually work on Cows but they made an exception for us. ThankYou for helping me. Sincerely Stacie G.”
“Now that Maple is completely healed from her spay, we wanted to leave a review because we are genuinely so impressed with how beautifully she healed. Her incision and scar look absolutely perfect. The scar is barely noticeable, her skin looks great, and you honestly would hardly know she had surgery at all.
We know spays are performed routinely, but they are still a significant abdominal surgery, and trusting someone with our little girl was a big deal to us. We are incredibly thankful that everything went so smoothly, both with the surgery itself and throughout her recovery.
Seeing how perfect everything looks now that she is fully healed really gives us an appreciation for the care and skill that went into her procedure. We are so grateful for the wonderful care Maple received and couldn't be happier with the outcome. ❤”

“I had an emergency and couldn't get into my local vet office because they were full. Apparently, nail trims and itchy skin take priority over a life-threatening emergency. You'd think they would hold open emergency slots! I drove 40 minutes to the next larger city. Went to a 24-hour Emergency and Urgent Care clinic. They said I'd have to wait about 6 hours to be seen. I couldn't wait that long and went to BAKERSFIELD VETERINARIAN HOSPITAL. They checked me in within about 15 minutes. While I had to sadly euthanize my pet, I was grateful for their getting my pet examined quickly and for their compassionate care. I 100% recommend going to Bakersfield Veterinary Hospital as a first choice!! Especially when minutes count!!”
