This is my second time buying from Focal Point.
I had a really perfect couple of hours this year choosing a pair of glasses (and possibly a second) with the help of Annalise Parker. She is remarkably knowledgeable and conversant about every pair I touched or glanced at and openly (I asked her to.) shared her opinion of whether that one was right for my face and requirements or not.
As we went through the process of choosing lenses and customizing lens protections , Annalise was able to clearly discuss the scientific particulars of each of the possible choices I asked about.
I learned a lot and loved the overall experience.
Thank you, David Salk, for hiring and training such well informed and customer mindful opticians.

I decided to splurge and buy my new glasses here and wasn't disappointed. While not the cheapest date in town, you get what you pay for. Lynn was an incredibly patient, consumate and knowledgeable pro who walked through their store with me and selected frame after frame after frame from their vast collection of frames and gave me candid feedback on the different frames until I decided on two (regular and VDT glasses). Neither is a frame I would have picked out on my own but couldn't be happier with them. The lenses their labs made up for me are spot on, the frames have garnered lots of compliments but most importantly, I am very happy with them. Try them - you won't be disappointed. My only disappointment was how long it took me to finally try them!

I needed to get my frames fixed because my backup glasses were lost on a trip and the lens kept falling out on my regular pair. So I started looking on line and found Focal Point. I hesitated to go there because it looked like it was going to be on a busy street….but I did. It was the best experience I have ever had at an Optical Shop. Very comfortable professional and competent atmosphere. I would not hesitate to go there again and recommend them too my closest friends and family.

Awesome Focal Point Thursday Team: Luke, Lynn, Maria, Bob & Melissa. Two hours yesterday, they let me get their input. Two clients, too, a jeweler from around the corner, and a woman client also gave their input. Oh, I think I was in there Wednesday for about 20 minutes to start the process too close to closing. I want to buy two frames! My last frames from Focal Point lasted since 2015. 9 years. Wow!
So much fun!

Very friendly. Only optician I called that would see me - even thoughts I'm visiting from out of town. I'd bent my glasses in a fall, and he fixed them.

Update: I've been back to Focal Point several times since my less than favorable review 10 years ago. I must say they have long memories. They also learn from their mistakes. For my prescription, they only recommend full-frame styles, rather than the half-frame styles that caused a lot of the grief with the lens makers. I've bought three different, stylish frames from them, plus had the prescriptions updated on these. The service is always within the window that they give me (10 days to 2 weeks), often coming in a bit early, with no sacrifice in quality. Yes, they are not cheap, but my opthomologist examined my glasses and told me that I'm definitely getting what I paid for them, that Focal Point's lens work is, in her opinion, the best in the business. I think that says it all. The staff remains knowledgeable, courteous, and have good taste in styles for me. At one point, I had THREE of them checking to make sure the fit looked right on me! Now that's service!

Couldn't give them higher remarks! I was looking for a new pair of frames and am so glad I found this place. Jeni spent real time with me testing out dozens of frames and styles before settling on a couple of pairs that really felt right. I would have never thought the ones I ended up with would look good on me if I was just shopping by myself, but with her help and their massive selection of designer looks we landed on the perfect new style for me that left me feeling fresh and confident. The turnaround was also impressive! Now I'm stopped at least once a day to get a compliment on my frames or a question about what brand they are and where I found them. <3 Makes me feel great. I will most certainly be returning for sunglasses and more. Absolutely in love with these guys!

After Luke kindly accommodated me and made time to straighten out my bent glasses' frame, he discovered that the nose pad wiring was coming apart. He would need time to make a repair, including setting the glue with UV light. Although it would have been more convenient and less stressful for him (it was a busy day there) to have me leave my glasses and come back at the end of the day, he understood the hassle that would be for me. So, while he tackled the glasses, I spent a productive and enjoyable hour (bank, bookstore, new hiking shoes, birthday card) in the neighborhood and returned to find my glasses fixed (and lenses cleaned). Plus, no charge; nothing but friendly and skilled help. Thanks again, Luke.

Sadly Not a Kind experience. I was shopping in the SF Design Center and I met a woman who had the most stylish and flattering small glasses on. My current glasses (and sunglasses) are so dated and given my age I need small frames to hide under my eyes - so I was extremely excited to see such great unusual glasses. We had a conversation and she highly recommend Focal Point letting me know "They really take care of you."Unfortunately I went into my phone to pull up the company and never clicked into the website. I was in San Francisco for 5 days and was leaving town and decided to drive from my friend's house I was staying at in Noe Valley over to Focal Point. When I arrived at the store I was a bit surprised to see blue across the front and in large letters "by appointment only." My whole stay in SF I did not hit one store that was still in Covid "by appointment" mode, so all the more I was caught off guard. Needless to say my heart sank. I figured I might as well let them know that I drove over from SF to pick out new glasses and that I live 3 hours north.When I tapped on the window the woman's facial expression and body language already told me she was annoyed to have to come open the door. When I explained my situation she replied with such an unkind tone (cutting edge schoolmarmish) letting me know that they had a rep there who was also located hours away. Words are one thing but the tone was uncalled for. It matched her annoyed introductory behavior. She offered me a possible appointment later that day but I had to run back to pack my car and get on the road before my friends returned home so I simply said no.I drove all the way from Noe Valley in great anticipation but sadly my experience was they are not service oriented, kind, understanding or in need of new business. A rep is more important than a customer - no workaround. I will check out what lines they carry and take my business elsewhere. I hit terrible traffic on my way back to SF (even at 10:30 am) to make my time wasted experience even worse ; - (
