Avoid this pharmacy at all costs—it is an absolute nightmare! The level of disorganization and mismanagement is genuinely appalling. As reviewers have described elsewhere here, the people at this pharmacy second-guess medical professionals and refuse or delay medication unreasonably. We switched pharmacies and are much happier.
My family recently moved to Berkeley from the Peninsula, and we made the grave mistake of trying to fill our prescriptions at this pharmacy and working with them (for months) with the pharmacy's constant delays and requests for more information. Our doctors are all at Stanford Medical Center in Palo Alto, where we have received care for over a decade. According to this Walgreens pharmacy, having "out of area" doctors is a cardinal sin in the eyes of this pharmacy's incompetent staff.
These are medications that my daughter and I have been taking for years. ADHD meds in one case, Accutane in another, and, for me, an anti-narcolepsy medication that I've relied on for 20 years. The prescriptions are never filled when asked, and the pharmacy constantly pesters our doctors for additional information. They are obsessed with requesting additional "treatment plans" for the medications. It's like second-guessing the doctors, making them write a report on it. Even when our doctors take the time to provide the requested documentation (they've done this once but won't every month). When refill requests are sent in, the pharmacy still fails to fill the prescriptions.
To add insult to injury, the staff dared to be rude and confrontational about prescriptions coming from "out-of-area doctors," and suggested to us that we are "forum shopping." Excuse me, but last time I checked, Stanford was one of the top medical institutions in the country. It's located very close to Berkeley. The Stanford doctors know what they're doing! The rules for additional treatment plans because Stanford is "out of area" is a made-up hurdle and arbitrarily applied are beyond absurd.
We've transferred our prescriptions to CVS, where they actually do their job and fill prescriptions without arguing with doctors and jeopardizing patients' health by withholding critical ongoing medications.
I cannot warn people strongly enough to avoid this Walgreens pharmacy. Save yourself the aggravation, wasted time, and potential medical consequences for your family. There are plenty of other pharmacies in Berkeley (the CVS on University seems great). Take your prescriptions elsewhere.

I would rather chop off my own hand than return to this Harmacy. The souless individuals behind the pharmacy counter seem to take a keen kind of pleasure to deny me my medication that i have been picking up there for a year. They have given me 45/135 pills i was owed with 0 refills, and 0 explanation, forcing me to pay another egregious amount to see my psychiatrist for another prescription. After thoroughly questioning whether or not I would be able to pick up my next prescription a month ago, I returned only for them to deny my medication I have been picking up under the same name (which does not match my id, and that has never been an issue) for a full year due to the name difference. When I attempted to question why, I was yelled at to calm down by the man behind the counter. Telling people to calm down when they are still calm is not the wisest life decision in my opinion, but I digress. A kind family member was willing to brave the pharmacy for me, as previously stated I would rather chop off my own hand, and had a similar experience in my place. Avoid this pharmacy like the plague, you will not receive your prescription, just another reason to need medication.

I was waiting for them to fill my prescription for a few days, then I called them just to find out they do not have it in stock and cannot fill it. Why not let me know immediately?
Calling them is also quite hard as they often leave you on hold for super long.

I've been on hold for >20 minutes. There is a human that pretends to answer, says nothing, only to put me back on hold again. Unbelievable.

This store is getting worse and worse, not just I have to do a long line because they don't have employees, actually they have employees, but they are busy in stocking products than helping customers. Today I have a pick up order, when I was home I realized that they give me an open shampoo, there is traces of shampoo in the packaging too, next time I will pick up what I want, place my online order and give the products to the employees I don't want him to tire himself out.

By far the worst pharmacy. If you come to pick up your prescriptions plan to wait at least 1hour in line and expect for them to only have half or none of your prescriptions ready. There will be at least 15people in line with only one person serving the line.

It’s too bad that Dante wrote Inferno in 1321 because he didn’t get to see what the real ninth circle of Hell looks like. The Walgreens on Adeline is my personal Hell. It’s sad and empty and the pharmacy would rather people die than do the bare minimum. Do yourself a favor and go anywhere else instead.

I now know why the shelves are sometimes very empty. I watched youngsters (1 on a bike inside the store!) fill up a big black trash bag and 1 with a duffel bag stealing anything they wanted!!! Security was outside shuffling around the side of the store. Paid off. Scared?Disgusting behavior! Also watched employees arguing about their jobs. Bay furious should be the new motto here!

The staff wants to overstep their bounds as pharmacists and play doctor. They second guessed my wife's prescriptions that she's been on for 30 years; and needs refilled in a timely fashion, and refused to fill her prescription submitted by a valid medical professional who has diagnosed and treated my wife since 2011 and who knows her condition and the need for her medications. Normally we've been going to the Walgreens in SF where there's never been a problem filling our prescriptions. However, this month our car is in the shop for repair, so it would mean taking the Bart and several busses to get to our regular pharmacy. Our clinic called in to the Adeline St. Walgreens this time as it would be a major hassle to go from Berkeley where we live to the City and back just to fill this month's prescriptions. When we called to check the status of our prescriptions; we were told that because of the nature of some of my wife's prescriptions, they would not fill them without a "plan of treatment" submitted by the clinic. That seems a bit like malpractice as they know nothing about my wife's condition and are refusing to fill an order from a legitimate medical practitioner without a written plan submitted to the pharmacist; which means delay in getting our medications, and we're already out of last months supply! If my wife has complications due to this delay, that would certainly be a case of malpractice and negligence on the part of the pharmacist. We've never encountered such an issue with any other pharmacy whether here in California, nor in Pennsylvania where my wife is from. Thumbs down on this Walgreens!
