accurate and efficient tax filing, a bit pricy ($400 for joint filing) but peace of mind is worth it

My experience was, the customer service I received from my tax professional was severely lacking for the money paid for the tax preparation. That said, the front desk service was great and really helped my out in the end.

We had an appointment today, April 13, 2023 at 3 PM. I gathered our tax information and we walked out after spending less than 15 minutes with tax preparer Susie Tran. We were having a very difficult time understanding her, and she was having a very difficult time understanding us. The number 3 was being written down instead of a number 2 and 63 was being written down instead of 62. The computer monitor closest to us was not functioning, and I could barely read the one in front of her. I suggested restarting to see if the piggyback monitor would start working and I also suggested changing workstations. When neither occurred it was time to walk out.

I really did not want to write a review, but l am still wondering why I thought doing my tax return with H&R Block was going to work well? My objective amongst others, was to make sure that the Federal tax paid for the Unemployment Benefits I received in 2020 was entered correctly on my Federal Tax Return. I told the H&R person exactly what it was. So, I came to go through all the 2020 Tax Paperwork. It was a step step process of signing the papers, but not actually going over the calculations the H&R used to complete my return. That was my bad for not asking questions. So, I went home to go over my tax returns. Right away, there was a problem with a tax paid for an Itemized Deduction. State and Local Income tax, or sales taxes would be an Itemized Deduction. I asked the H&R person where they got the number from, but forgot how they came up with that number. My tax returns had been sent on February 4, weeks went by, with nothing. On April 5, I received a letter from the IRS, with the way that they had corrected my Federal Tax Return. The problem there was that there was the correct amount of the Federal Tax on Unemployment Benefits. So, I called the IRS to go over what they did to find how go correct my return. I found it necessary to correct all of that for my own records and send copies to the H&R person, too. I also asked for a refund of the money I paid a tax person, who made several mistakes. Oh, BTW, I still have not received the Federal refund, as of today. I will go back to doing my own tax returns, that way I'll know for sure if that they are correct.

We dropped off our forms today. It was supposed to be an appointment. Their office is now closed, haven't heard from them. Not sure why they had an appointment scheduled. We had to rush to the appointment drop off time. Not sure f it was actually given to a tax preparer. If you drop off your documents, find out what you need to expect.
