My mother was gifted some cooking classes here and we signed up together and had a fantastic experience each time. The signup process is easy online and they have plenty of options to choose from at all times of the day, almost every day! We chose three different dinner meals and each were creative and unique. The chefs and staff are so professional, knowledgeable, and each bring different skills to the classes. They break things down to an absolute beginner level so that it is accessible to all, even with absolutely no cooking or kitchen skills. I think the most helpful part of the classes were learning techniques to prep the different elements of the meal, and the reasoning behind the plating as well. Due to time constraints, a lot of the more mundane prep is done for you (measuring, etc.) so you don't exactly cook the entire meal yourself. Depending on how full the class is (up to 16 people), you'll work in teams with other participants. You get to keep a copy of the recipe as well. They also provide a short break about half way through the class where you can shop the store for 10% off. After, you get to eat and there are usually leftovers and they provide to-go boxes to take them home. Would highly recommend for a fun and interactive date-night, celebration, or just anyone looking to refine their cooking skills and repertoire.

I came to this location to return a Christmas gift. I have a lot of older La Creuset bakeware and the casserole bakeware that I asked for and was gifted was drastically different in terms of quality. When I tried to return it with the sticker still on and receipt in hand, the employee asked me if I used it. When I said no, she told me it was past the 30-day return policy. Then after I told her that it was a gift and there is an extension on the gift policy around the holidays, she refunded the amount to the original credit card even though I told her it was a gift. I've been shopping with them for years and have taken many classes at their LA locations, but being treated like some sort of scammer is making me look elsewhere.

Even during the holiday rush, the staff at Sur La Table Carlsbad were amazing! We were there to buy a coffee machine and Simona was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We are very happy with our purchase. Great store and people!

Special thanks to Natalia at the forum in Carlsbad. She helped wrap up a last minute gift for my husband and I last night while out shopping and it was beautiful. It’s hard to find people willing to take the time and care to go a little extra and we really appreciate that Natalia did just that! Top notch customer service. I wish I snapped a pic!

I love the store and its staff. I took a macaron baking class on December 2nd at the Carlsbad location and I was very disappointed. The chef seems knowledgeable and said she has made over 8000 macrons yet none of ours turned out. My teams fillings were so hard we couldn’t get the out of the pastry bag, and the frosting broke and we couldn’t use it. The cookies them self did not rise and we couldn’t remove some of them from the pan. When you pay $89 for a cooking class it should be a little better executed. The 2 stars are for the great helpers in the class.

I had a wonderful experience with Sur La Table and will continue to return. They have everything you need, don't try to sell you the most expensive choices and are knowledgeable. My only negative is that I purchased $350 they day prior and didn't know they had a points system and threw aay my reciept, but they couldn't look it up when I was buying $1500 of product. Not a huge deal as the experience they gave me both days gives them 5 stars.

In the past I have taken multiple cooking classes at this location, which were all excellent. Last week I gifted my friends with a Thai cooking class: it was an absolutely horrifying and embarrassing experience. The "chef" was an amateur cook lady as boring and non engaging as one can be. She would not answer any questions because she had no answers or knowledge past the ability of reading the recipes provided by Sur-la-table. She decided to cook the sauce of the main dish, the Pad Thai, by herself "to speed up things" while blabbering or reading the Sur-la-Table recipes aloud. I wonder if all she cared was to sprint home as fast as possible (lesson was less than 1.5 hours including break while they normally run 2 or more). Extremely disorganized, no comments, no suggestions, no explanations (except some tips she said she found on youtube were she went to see how to cook Thai) The result was a disgusting sugar/vinegar soup that was supposed to be Pad Thai. We left it all there untouched and kept silent when she asked if we liked it but she could not care less. As a cook I always appreciate honest feedback, especially if what I cook is left intact on the plate... We almost left in the middle of the lesson. It was so unbearably boring and useless. My friends stayed just to be polite as they felt bad I spent a good amount of money to learn less than if we also watched some Thai recipes on youtube ... for free!We then cooked some shrimps and the "chef" had no clue how to set the temperature on the induction cooktops or how to know if the shrimps were ready or not. People would ask questions and she would simply not answer and turn pretending to be busy moving stuff around without any purpose. The rice we were supposed to cook was also already prepared by her in advance so "it would be faster". We paid for a cooking class, duh! we wanted and were supposed to learn how to cook it, if I we wanted prepared food we could have easily ordered it at a restaurant!!!What I am mostly upset is that I wanted to give my friends a memorable gift and a great experience, but the only memorable thing is how terrible it was.Sur-la-table, if you cannot hire decent chefs and docents please do not rip off people with subpar pseudo cooking classes!

Would not recommend you get your knives sharpened here.Brought my Wusthof knives in for the first time to get sharpened. Upon getting them back, I noticed a chip and crack down the face of my chefs knife from a drop. Immediately took it back and showed them. The general manager was friendly but ultimately was unwilling to help. She even called out directly that associates are supposed to inspect knives and notate existing damage (which there was no notation of this obviously because it wasn’t there when I brought them in). She didn’t even offer to refund the money for the sharpening.Would highly recommend you go elsewhere if you have expensive knives or be very particularly about taking pictures and looking them over with the employees prior to letting them have them. Don’t be a fool like me and think people will take care of the things you own.

Love taking cooking classes from here. I think I have taken like 15 or so in the past year and half. And forgot to leave a review. I remembered to upload the pictures but left out the most important part. LOLThe chef's, kitchen assistants, and all staff are welcoming, attentive and they want us all to have a great time and cook more foods from scratch at home. Some memorable cuisines that I attended are Korean, Japanese, Thai, Moroccan, Indian, Italian, and many many others. For sure am a regular and can't wait to return.

Embarking on the Knife Skills 101 course at Sur La Table was a cut above the rest. The cozy ambiance of the kitchen set the stage for an immersive experience, although the limited space meant working shoulder to shoulder. While practice materials were minimal, with just one carrot and a few veggies, the instructor, was the true highlight. His expertise and affable teaching style made up for any shortcomings. Despite the tight quarters and limited practice, the guidance left me feeling sharper in the kitchen. A solid choice for honing your knife skills, especially for beginners.
