I picked up a lightweight hiking backpack and trekking poles, and the price was almost half of what I saw online.

They carry reliable name brands like Outdoor Products, Coleman, and CamelBak, plus a lot of basic items that are perfect for day hikes — socks, water bottles, snacks, and more. The store is easy to shop, and the employees are friendly and will help you find the right size or style.

If you’re doing a big backpacking trip and need specialized gear, you might still need to check a larger outfitters store. But if you just need solid, practical hiking equipment at a fair price, Big 5 is a great choice.
