“• Maido (Japantown): I first went to Maido looking for a specific sketchbook by Trystrams. They do carry it, but it wasn’t available in-store and there was no clear restock timeline.

• Topdrawer (Valencia): They only carry proprietary items and don’t stock the Trystrams sketchbook, but the person there immediately pointed me towards the Wishing We’ll workshop.

• The Wishing Well Workshop (Clement): They looked for it and realized they were all sold out. The owner immediately placed an order in multiple colors and took my contact info to notify me when it arrives. The reason I went through all this: the Trystrams sketchbook is thin, easy to carry, and the paper quality is exceptional.

Love this workshop!”

“I got a great quality memobook here. I'm very picky about personal stationery that doesn't degrade or fall apart (sagging spines, damaged page fringes, 'writes' nicely with a ballpoint pen, and oh of course writes smoothly with MUJI pens).

The shop ladies were a little wary when I was going around their book selection with a ruler to measure exact dimensions (my work bag can't fit medium or large notebooks), so I quickly picked a memobook with tearable pages and finished the purchase.

Lovely set up, wish I had more time to browse other stuff.”

“Fabric and dyes abound! Very helpful staff. Large selection of yarns for knitting and crocheting. Want to make a beautiful embroidered garment? Here's your new love affair. Some of the time I'm wandering the aisles I feel like I'm 20 years old again and it's 1970 ? thank you to everyone at Dharma for being so peachy keen.”

“The vibe there is so chill the people that work there are all of One mind and that's the love of art. And it is contagious, I wanted to get my paint brush and pad out right then and there, and I don't even paint. My son and I went in there for spray paints. The variety of colors they had in their collection were breathtaking. They we're very accommodating in opening the locked lockers to show us the paint. This is a small business and I love giving them my money because I know it's going to a very good and earth lovin' conscientious company. They make the planet prettier and the people peaceful just because of the love of art!”

“Please note that the brick and mortar location is no longer a gallery. The owner has moved the gallery contents to his apartment up the street, which can be viewed by appointment. I was lucky enough to call and catch him while he was in to view his amazing collection. I was thoroughly impressed by his array of strange objects and curios. I do wish that he would open a better website (most of the photos on the current website are inoperable) - something on Instagram, Chairish, or 1st Dibs would really expand his clientele and make it more accessible. *UPDATE: The website works better on a computer browser than on a cell phone!*”

“They almost always have what I'm looking for here. The store is well organized with an open floor layout these leaves lots of space, even when they're busy. Staff is always super kind and helpful.”

“This is the place to go to if you love stationary. But. Beware. It’s not a cheap. And there is so much cute stuff here that you will be hard pressed to leave without buying something.
The stamps and the washi tapes/ Japanese masking tapes especially are so cute and the options so many.
I…ended up spending a lot more than I’d planned to. But all is well that ends well right? I guess. ?”

“Blick Art Materials is a giant nationwide chain of art stores. As such the things they sell are good but not great. However they carry a very wide selection of art supplies so you will need this store to supply all the additional things you can't get from specialty stores.”

“More of a knickknack store/gift shop than a true stationery store. Not as serious as, for example, Maido. So if you're looking for fountain pens, inks, and quality writing paper or notebooks, this is not the place you're looking for. This is more of a cute store for the casual shopper.”
