Rei is my go-to camping store. I've been a member since 1990. Always have For the most part 90% Friendly staff What good quality. Sure you may pay a little bit more But compared to those big Box stores And the staff is clueless. I'm okaypaying a little bit more.

The photos of this place in very misleading because they belong to the former location & not the new one!
Previous location was a large 2 story building with lots of inventory, but this location barely has anything! Very small! Very disappointing!

Blake pointed out where the first aid section was and helped me make my decision on what to buy. Kaden rang me up, very satisfied with my shopping experience.

Snobby staff who just stand around and don’t even offer assistance, overpriced goods, and a very corporate feel. Yea I’m done, nice doing business but no more.

Thought it is a big two story store. But not anymore. Lack of product variety. Very disappointed

We’ve been longtime REI members, shop consistently with our REI Rewards CC. We are big outdoor enthusiasts and have always enjoyed shopping at various REI locations. The atmosphere has consistently been welcoming, and we’ve always felt free to browse, ask questions, and enjoy the experience without pressure.
Unfortunately, our experience at this particular location did not reflect that same standard. As people of color, we felt noticeably uncomfortable while shopping here—as though we were being watched with suspicion at every turn. Despite a sign at the door stating that discrimination has no place at REI, our experience felt quite the opposite. It’s disheartening to feel unwelcome in a space that we’ve long supported and trusted.
We hope this feedback is taken seriously so all customers—regardless of background—can feel safe and respected while shopping.

Insane deals during the 4rth on bikes here. I got a carbon warbird for 1500! Derek and his coworkers were so nice while I looked and found a bike my size and just my luck someone returned a bike that fit me perfectly it just happened to be a pro level bike. Accessories were in sale and I left with a helmet that was half off. Stop in if your in the market for anything because one man's trash is another mans treasure. I'm having so much fun riding in the mornings ☺️ Go big or go home! Thanks REI 😘

I'd like to acknowledge, Derek, Mac and the entire bike shop team for doing an outstanding job. I've been having my bike serviced by REI for 7 years now, they always provide an accurate estimate for repairs which are performed in a timely manner. So glad to have this team as my go-to wrench to support my riding. Can't recommend them highly enough.

Love REI, but miss the Encinitas store and staff. Had to chase down someone to ask a simple question. Was ignored me and looked down at their phone the first time I tried to get their attention when I asked for help. The floor person went past me to go ask another customer if they were doing o.k. I did just arrive there after swimming with wet hair…and I am old. I am sure that didn’t help the motivation to help. Miss you old Encinitas store.

Bike shop is understaffed and unable to manage work or complete repairs within 2 weeks. They have no record of the part (Rad City 5 Plus Ebike controller) I ordered twice and recommended I take my repair work to a mom and pop bike shop in someone’s garage.
A bike shop employee and store manager both informed me that the understaffing issue is chronic with no resolution in sight.
When the REI store was in its original location, the staff did an excellent job ordering and replacing the controller on my other Rad City 5 Plus Ebike. Those days are gone.

The employees are super helpful, great atmosphere, and one of them told me “you look strong” and I’m still thinking about it tbh

Worst experience at an REI ever. Let’s be clear I love REI, I probably spend 5-10k a year. I had to exchange a large item you can only order online (they don’t stock it) the process could not have been made more difficult and frustrating, with Brian (department manager) unpacking the gazebo and demanding I show him where the sewing defects are repeatedly. We are talking about a large item, with him going through it like a crazy person at the front of the store. This item always meticulously packed and had everything it came with.
I think the problem is REI typically sets the bar so high for great customer service when they treat you like a criminal or provide less than stellar customer service it’s sort of really hits you weird.
Also, this wasn’t a return. It was an exchange for the exact same item that didn’t have the same sewing issues.
Do better.
