“This review is long overdue but definitely one I have put a lot of thought into and one worth reading if you’re thinking about buying a knife from Recon 1.

I recently purchased an Anso Toko from Recon 1 which was an incredible knife and one I had been wanting in my collection for quite some time. Unfortunately, due to nerve damage in my hand, I operate flipper tabs with my thumb and the Toko’s tab was so minimalist I was not able to properly deploy the blade. While disappointed I wouldn’t be able to enjoy the knife, by the time I came to this conclusion I was outside of the return window.

I reached out to Recon 1 and was connected with Tamar who I explained the situation to. While I did not expect to be able to return the knife, I was hoping they would be willing to post the knife as “pre-owned” despite the knife effectively being brand new having only been deployed less than a handful of times before going back in the box. While this wouldn’t provide me with a full refund, I figured at least I could recoup some of the cost to put towards another knife.

What came next has made me a customer for life. Not only did she listen to my situation but immediately offered to let me send the knife back to exchange for another of my choosing that would better fit my needs with the understanding that she would need to inspect the knife to ensure it was, in fact, still brand new. Now, most others would have charged a re-stocking fee or something similar but after inspecting the knife and confirming it was still BNIB, Tamar let me know I could use the full value towards another knife!

That alone exceeded my expectations but she wasn’t done providing one of the best purchasing experiences I’ve ever had. Tamar proceeded to spend the next several weeks going through different knife makers and models to ensure I found a knife that I would love and be able to use. She listened to what I looked for in a knife and provided me with options she thought would best align with my preferences even going so far as to send me videos of her deploying the knives using her thumb to be sure I could deploy them! She didn’t try to upsell me on anything or push me to hurry up and make a decision. Instead, she patiently answered all of my questions and eventually helped me settle on a Shirogorov F95 Zero which has quickly become a favorite in my collection despite never having been on my radar prior to our conversations.

Thanks to Tamar, I went from being disappointed with a knife I had wanted for a very long time and expecting to lose money trading it in (despite never being able to use it let alone properly deploy it) to finding a knife I had never even considered purchasing that ended up being immeasurably better than anything I could have hoped for! The time, understanding and patience she showed me is something I am immensely grateful for and a level of customer service that I have rarely seen. She could have told me “tough luck, we don’t take returns outside of the window”, charged me a re-stocking fee or even just gave me store credit and called it a day; all of which would have been completely understandable. Instead, she personally ensured I found a knife that I would love and be able to use. I honestly still can’t believe she was willing to provide so much of her time and knowledge to help a first time customer. If you’re looking to purchase a knife from people who actually care about their customers and are willing to go the extra mile to prove it, look no further than Recon 1. Hands down the best in the business and I will be making all of my future purchases through them!”
