“Always stop here on the way to Mammoth, to get gas, use the bathroom and buy nightcrawlers. The latter is convenient as I can start fishing once I get to Mammoth without having to buy worms there. Bathroom on the grungy side but, functional. The rest of the gas station is clean and you can pick up snacks here too. The folks working the shop inside are usually friendly.”

“This little gas station has a very good selection of items from food and drinks to clothing and souvenir type gifts. The guy who works there is also pretty friendly..”

“We stayed in the RV section. They accommodate tents as well. It used to be called Oak Creek Rv park, which was washed away in 2009. This is part of the American Indian running businesses right before you hit Independence, Ca. They have a small store, very small casino, and if you are into it, (I'm not), a dispensary for you know what in Ca. We don't have those in Idaho, thankfully. The gas price didn't fluctuate over the holiday either, as it did at most gas stations, we noticed. We stayed at Fort Independence Rv on May 24th, left the morning of May 25, headed to our destination. We returned on May 30th for the night, headed back home to Idaho. The Rv park has level concrete slabs for your RV, full hookups. Those were all nice. The bathroom, with the shower, wasn't as clean looking as we had hoped, and being in Ca, you have to hit the water button to start about every 3 minutes, maybe even 2 minutes. There was no mirror in the bathroom, and there were no electrical outlets. Showers were free, but we wore sandals in the shower. There was no shower mat for water to go through outside the shower, such as we regularly see at KOA's. We had to dry off, and stand on our towels. The toilet was pretty clean with toilet paper stocked. The area is pretty with a raging stream off to the side due to spring and snow melt. The rest is just dirt and gravel. They provide a picnic table at each slot, but no BBQ pit due to fire prevention. The gentleman beside us loaned us his small cooker he had brought with him to cook hamburgers on. (In Idaho, these are a given) There is nothing for kids to do except to ride their bikes and scooters. We had our 3 year old great grandson with us. He rode his bike for a little bit. He saw the creek, and that was the highlight for him. The people are very nice, the store is well stocked for snacks and drinks. Very quiet at night. This would be a great place for adults only to stay, and we are told the RV park is a work in progress, so they may eventually add these things. This is something you need to check on. There were plenty of empty pull through sites available. It does have a spectacular view of the mountains.”
