We had been suffering with problems with our Cadillac XT5 while we were out of state for the summer. We came back and saw Justin with three problems:
1. The battery was low on my FOB and I had tried everything, including watching all the YouTube videos, and could not get the case open to replace the battery. It seemed like someone had super glued the FOB closed.
2. For the entire Summer, The accelerator seem to have a mind of its own - it would suddenly ramp up and wouldn't stop or I would accelerate, take my foot off the accelerator and it would just keep going. Sometimes I would start the engine, put it in gear and it would spin the tires on its own!
3. We had a blowout on our way home and had to use the spare tire. It's not really a full spare but it'll get you to the nearest tire shop. I could not get the mini spare to fit back into the compartment in the rear storage area. The cover would stick up about a half inch and not fit flush with the rest of the back deck.
I was anticipating a major expense with the accelerator issue.
Justin quickly used the small tools he had at his desk to open the FOB and replaced the battery with the one I gave him. Secondly, he calls us out to look at the driver side floor and ask me where the accelerator was. It was gone! As it turned out, someone (my wife and I couldn't agree who it was), had removed the heavy rubber mats to clean the interior and when (she) replaced them, (she) placed them OVER the accelerator! When I used the gas pedal, the mat would hold it wherever I had depressed it!
It's apparently rare that the XT5 we own would have a spare - I understand they normally just have an air pump. So Justin didn't have a lot of experience with replacing the spares but he worked diligently for good 15 minutes to figure out how the thing fit back together and made it so the deck closes perfectly!
We all got a big laugh about the accelerator issue. Justin was so cordial and we walked away with a FOB with a fresh battery, a neat fitting rear deck, and accelerator that isn't managed by a mat!
