Car was nice, but agents did not disclose policy or information about extra charges and/or how to avoid extra expense. I was not informed upon pick-up and drop-off and was simply told I would receive my receipt via email. Gas tank was full, car was clean as when picked up, and there was no damage. The original estimate of $371 ended up at $417, so I've asked Budget to reconsider. Perhaps my being a very infrequent traveler was a factor, but better disclosure practices would be helpful to all travelers. I'll post an update if they make good on their original estimate.

I booked a van with this Budget at Long Beach airport on priceline. Pickup time is 8am. The guy on the counter told me the car will be available in 5min. Possibly, then an hour then two hours, then still nothing. The manager is extremely rude. Not even an apology.#budgetrental

My experiences vary so much from fantastic to horrible depending on where I rent the vehicle from and which company I rent from. I know Budget/Avis is probably a really good company, but think it really needs to be a priority to ensure your customers receive a vehicle that does not have the pungent smell of marijuana when they take possession of it. There are ways to rid the vehicle of the smell. Why was this not done, or why did they not take that car our of the fleet so it could be properly aired out? I did not have time to insist on another vehicle because I had an extremely limited time with the vehicle. So I tolerated the stench. I was concerned that if for any reason I was pulled over by a police officer that we would be detained and possibly even charged for driving while high, which would have been a total catastrophe. I will rent from Budget again. I just feel the company needs to strive for better results. Thank you!

UPDATE: I'm upgrading my original one star to three, seeing as there were no unexpected after charges or shenanigans with my "deposit."ORIGINAL REVIEW: The only reason I chose to deal with Budget is because of the 35% AARP discount. But that discount only applied for prepay, which I DID only to get there a find they didn't have the type of vehicle I selected. The guy behind the counter wanted to put me in a frekin PICKUP!After a somewhat lengthy wait I inquired again and was told they still had no cars, at which point I asked for my money back and viola! He found a car.I also didn't like finding out I had to pay an additional $250 DEPOSIT on top of the prepaid amount (to cover in case I had to extend the rental he claimed - I'd get it back, he said).And I tried to tell him about existing damage on the rather dirty car, to which his response was that they already had a record of it, and I should take photos for documentation.

The prices are always good at the LB Airport. Staff is always friendly, and there is usually no lines. However, my only issues is that the cars are usually dirty when picked up. It’s like they just run water over the car but don’t wipe it or clean the windows. So I always have to wash or take the car to get washed. It’s annoying, when you have things to do. These are each different rentals.

Terrible experience - rented a car, person at desk didn't notate one way and I got charged hundreds of dollars. They don't answer phone, went back to desk and they don't help, they gave number to manager GiGi and she didn't call back for weeks, I call her back and hung up on me. No ownership, terrible service.

The car I received had damage to it. I tried to inform the worker but he was dismissive and told me to take photos and a video to show the damage was there when I picked up the car. Never heard of such a thing when renting since they do a walk around with you to document the damage. The car was dirty and needed to be washed. I turned the car back in early and was still charged the full amount.

Michael was the attendant at the counter for check-in, and also check out. He was very polite, friendly, and very knowledgeable and efficient. I can’t say enough good things about him! Isabella was the contact person to return my keys to the car. She was also very polite, friendly, bilingual, and extremely efficient. Thank you so much for such a great service and affordable price! I will be back!

When I arrived, I expected to get a Toyota 4Runner or comparable. Instead I got a smaller Chevy SUV to check out. We went out to get into it and it was buried in the lot… and it was dirty. I went back into counter and notified them of the issue and the condition. I asked for something better than that and asked for it to be clean.. the response I received was, “oh honey, you know you at Budget right”. To say the least, I realized it in that moment. I ended up with a different vehicle but it was not much cleaner than the previous and certainly not comparable to a Toyota 4Runner. False advertisement on the car and certainly not a clean car at that.Not the best experience and will stick to other options in the future.

Wasn't sure where to go, as most of the other companies have their names along the parking lot. The counter service was good. Return service was cordial and informative, also practical. The staff members were helpful every time.

Beware! If the rental says says 52.00 a day. You will be charged double. I had the vehicle 3 days and drove under a total of 100 miles. I returned the vehicle clean and with a full tank of gas. 339.00Also the mileage they claimed that I drove was nearly 300 miles. Rip off. Travelocity booking was 212.00 and I'm charged over 339.00 three days later. Somewhere between booking on Expedia and the budget rental counter they added over 100.00. I had already added the extra insurance coverage and Expedia charged my card already for 36.00 and my price was confirmed for a total of 252.00. All in all I paid 375.00 for a 52 dollar a day car for three days. Crooked company. Run!

Bull shit Rental company, tried to charge 75.00 for not going 75 miles in the car but I brought it back full, had to dispute , then looked at my initial reservation 235.00, why I'm getting charged 266.00, Olivia at the counter rectified, received a dirty car from the get, I will never rent from them again.

When I originally called to book the car and I talked to somebody at the call center the lady told me I could use a debit card if need be that it was no problem and she told me there would not be a deposit so only having one credit card with me I transferred the specific amount of money to my credit card the day before the pick up that she told me I would need and then when I got to the pick up, they told me that it was gonna be more money for the deposit. There weren't enough funds on the credit card as I had only transferred so much money out of my bank to my credit card the previous day and they would not let me pay with my debit card even though there's thousands of dollars on there because of a ridiculous soft credit pull and so they had to cut my time for the vehicle down to only two days instead of the four days. Then I tried to extend the vehicle on the phone once the funds were back in my credit card the next day and Budget would not let me do this on the phone I had to go to the location where I was returning the vehicle but that was seven hours away in Phoenix. Michael at the counter in Long Beach was great and was super helpful. Everybody who's working the phones has no idea what they're doing and needs better training. This whole situation basically ruined my trip and was extremely extremely stressful, once I got to Phoenix which was a day earlier than planned because I was not able to extend the rental over the phone and I was planning on staying in California until Sunday I just decided to return the vehicle. The lady who helped me return the vehicle was super nice, but this whole situation was stressful and cut my trip short and was very beyond inconvenient and I would never rent from this company ever again and will be posting this review everywhere!
