Such a cute hotel, it was close to the bars and a cheap Uber ride away from the clubs. Hospitality was incredible. Rooms were really cute for a girls night out in LA

Our stay was so comfortable and this is the most fashionable and classy hotel I have stayed at. We were in town to check on one of our businesses and we are so happy with our stay. I have worked in several hotels when I was younger and I know great service when I see it. At one point the room next to us was yelling at one in the morning and half awake, I called the front desk for help and our neighbors stopped yelling almost immediately. I really appreciate them fixing that issue for us. Thanks!

Mediocre hotel in a neighborhood that has not recovered from the pandemic. The restaurant is no longer offering breakfast and they charge a $25 "amenity fee" that is poorly documented when booking. We stayed here in Dec 2022 and it was much better than our recent stay in 2023.Lots of other properties in the area.

Part of the trend of bygone motels converted to boutique hotels, Short Stories is a nice conversion from the previous Farmer's Daughter Hotel which occupied the property. Going for a retro-mid-century modern style which fits the location better. It's relatively new and they seem to be still working out kinks, so I hope they get into full swing as it has potential to be an established destination. Location: Right across from the Grove and Fairfax district, the location is hard to beat if you want to check out this section of LA. Shopping, restaurants, and markets are nearby for convenience and other parts of the LA area reasonable distances away. Good fun option if you're looking to find a place to stay near Cedar-Sinai Hospital if you want something more than a sterile Marriott. Common Areas: Inviting courtyard with great ambient lighting and seating which actually make you want to hang out there. Pool was small and enclosed which seems to make it limited to hang out at (November weather doesn't make it appealing either). There's a bar/restaurant attached to the courtyard that seems to be a nice venue to host events or company parties (both which happened during my stay). Rooms: Jr. King Suites are located in the South Building (which is located across an enclosed parking lot part of the property) which make the rooms a bit quieter since it's further from the courtyard and bar/restaurant. However, even though we were furthest from the street, it's off of Fairfax so the traffic (from confused race car drivers) and pedestrian noise will always be present. Beds are comfortable, rooms have a design aesthetic to them and table height in the Jr. suites is appreciated compared to the typical coffee table you might find in a comparable suite. The oddest part of the rooms are the toilets, which are the commercial style that you find in a mall or stadium. Takes away from the ambiance, especially when you flush (or hear your neighbors flush). At least you don't really have to worry about clogs with all that suction... The most pleasant surprise are the amount of interesting art books scattered throughout the room. I could spend the day just going through all of them. Service: Seemed average where I didn't get the feeling anyone was going out of their way but also they were attentive enough where I didn't feel ignored. Parking is valet only and is $45/night with in and out privileges. There's a $25 amenities fee per night. Another review mentioned the lack of trashcans around and that is true. Food: Tried some of the dishes from the hotel bar/restaurant - which used to be occupied by the pop-up Netflix Bites. Now called "the Bar", they seem to be getting adjusted as even the phones in the rooms end up dialing the Netflix Bites automation service instead of ringing the restaurant to order. (You have to call the front desk to order). Menu items are clean and tasty (see my photos). With so many food options nearby, it's not a destination restaurant, but if you wanted to have something solid to eat, then it's a good option. Looks like they have some great cocktails offered there so it could be a nice spot to grab a drink. Value: Taking into consideration of my 2 night stay, it was nice. For the location and the price it's a good option if you're looking for a place to stay in this part of LA (smashed between cheaper Ktown or pricey Beverly Hills). I think as they find their groove and pay attention to details, they have the potential to be an establishment amongst the boutique hotels that are sprinkled throughout LA.

Super cute hotel in a great location. Short Stories was a motel back in the day and has been converted and modernised beautifully. It’s simply charming and a great option for anyone looking for a quiet, cute hotel. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfy. The bed is luxe and there is a nice seating area with table for chilling. All rooms on upper two levels are accessible via lift. The courtyard garden is lovely for drinks, chilling and also grabbing a meal. The person at valet was super nice! I don’t grab his name but he was lovely. All the staff were great.Rooms: Fresh and clean with a cool look. Spacious and the bed was super comfy.Nearby activities: Across the road from the original Farmers Market and Whole Foods. A few minutes by car to West Hollywood shopping and Melrose.Food & drinks: Bar and restaurant on site. Nice cocktails.Noteworthy details: There is a hearted pool which is nice to chill by

Wonderful hotel! Lovely decor and a really nice courtyard to lounge in. It is just across the street from the Original Farmer's Market and The Grove, so food and entertainment couldn't be any more convenient.

My review is about the restaurant and bar. Me and a friend checked out Short Stories for drinks and a lite bite. We got there about 15 mins before the restaurant opened but the hotel staff was nice enough to let us have a HH beverage. One the restaurant opened the stag was super nice and welcoming. The cocktails were delicious. Decor was also cute. The food wasn't amazing but it was okay. We had the olives and bread, shishito peppers, and calamari. Also the menu is very small. So don't come hungry. Overall I would be back for drinks.

This hotel was so nice. It was located near many shops and restaurants. The beds were comfortable and they even provide robes in the room. The best part was "wine hour" and relaxing in the outdoor terrace area. I would stay again.

Super cute! Very well kept and I think its pretty newly renovated? I checked in super late but the lady was so pleasant and gave me complimentary wine :) I loved the room. It was perfectly minimal yet stylish and charming i loved the amenities. I wished I tried their food since they're doing soemthing with Netflix at the moment. Great location and I think its super reasonabe with everything considered. Also you're right across the street from the Grove and also 3rd street which has so many shops and restaraunts and bars. Super recommend!

This is such a nice little spot! The rooms have a modern quirky style and are very clean and comfortable. Great location within walking distance of the old farmer's market and modern art gallery. Would highly recommend.

Issue 1) There is no parking, other than valet, which is not included in the reservation, nor mentioned when booking a reservation on their site.Issue 2) I was here just last night to check in. Unfortunately, I was a victim of credit card fraud a few hours earlier, and my bank deactivated my card. This should have been no problem since the room was already paid for, but they needed a card for incidentals. I had my ID, reservation receipt, cash, checkbook, plenty of money and plenty of ways to pay -- but they wouldn't accept any other forms of payment. They were "cashless" (but really they were "credit only"). They refused to check me in and left me with no where to go.Unfortunately, no-cash policies have a negative impact on people of lower class, who have less access to credit. And as we all know, in America, all instances of classicism are multiplied for people of color. So I have no reservations stating that their policies are racist and classicist. Regardless of their justification, and regardless of how common these corporate decisions are.Issue 3) The lobby was nice but empty. There was no food. The restaurant was closed (it was 10pm-ish). I saw no complimentary tea or coffee (I could have missed this).Issue 4) Amenities are apparently not included with the room. You have to pay extra for them. Go figure.I will not be back.

Amazing hotel and even better staff! The rooms a chic and comfortable. The location is convenient to the area. But the biggest value is its people. SUPER helpful, friendly, service-oriented staff. When my 3rd party booking site made a mistake, they bent over backward to make every accommodation to make my family and me comfortable in a room that worked for us.I am a frequent traveler. I've never been this blown away by an experience - and turning a potentially bad experience into a win. I will DEFINITELY be back when I visit next.

We had a great stay at short stories. It was our first time in LA we found it very central and easy enough to get to with the traffic. We took public transportation whenever we could (during the day) and the bus stop was right outside the hotel. The room was super cute, updated and clean. It really had everything you needed. We didn’t take advantage of the pool of Netflix pop up but it looked awesome. Being close to the farmers market and the grove was perfect and lots of grocery stores close by too. Go to sidecar donuts beside the target for sure. It was also super quiet, would come back for sure!

Pros: I like the hotel concept and décor - Mediterranean, retro, clean, minimalist, lots of plants and art books displayed in the lobby and in the hotel room. The design and layout of the room is similar to a motel style where you access your room door directly from the private parking lot. The hotel is conveniently located across from the Grove. During our stay, they had Netflix Bites set up on the hotel premise so we had a fun experience trying out the menu designed by multiple Netflix celebrity chefs.Cons: The lights in the room are quite dim, especially in the bathroom area where bright lights are needed the most. They really need to work on upgrading the light fixtures to something more powerful. Luckily I brought a lit makeup mirror.Rooms: Room furniture are smartly designed to provide extra storage space. The room is clean and thoughtfully decorated with plants and many picture books. The bathroom sink area is quite dark to get ready in the morning.Walkability: Across the street from the Grove with multiple shopping places and coffee shops.
