Though this is not my neighborhood branch, my experience with this Cathay Bank has been positive. My previous bank had transferred my account to Cathay, and during the initial phase, I was worried that getting adjusted to a new bank would be challenging or filled with unintentional mishaps. However, when I entered the branch, getting account information and setting up my ATM card were very simple.I had some additional banking questions that were answered promptly, and I did not have a long line to cope with while I waited. Overall, I thought the service was professional, efficient, and helpful in meeting my banking needs!

I'm deeply disappointed and frustrated regarding the misinformation provided by two of this bank employees, Ms. Danilion Wu and Mrs. Louie. Recently, my elderly mother, who is a valued customer of Cathay Bank, approached Ms. Wu and Mrs. Louie seeking clarification on the requirements for maintaining a checking account with direct deposit. To her surprise, Danilion informed her that she must maintain a minimum balance of $1000 in her checking account, despite having direct deposit set up.This information is not only incorrect but also misleading, causing unnecessary stress and financial burden for my mother. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, it is imperative for her to have accurate knowledge about the banking policies and requirements.I would like to bring to your attention that according to the official Cathay Bank website and the terms and conditions outlined in the account agreement, there is no mention of any minimum balance requirement for customers who have direct deposit set up. This discrepancy between the information provided by your employees and the official bank policies is deeply concerning.Not only did Ms. Wu and Mrs. Louie misinform my mother, but they also failed to provide her with the correct information and guidance necessary to ensure her banking experience remains smooth and hassle-free. This level of negligence and lack of professionalism is highly disappointing, especially coming from representatives of a reputed institution like Cathay Bank.I kindly request that you investigate this matter thoroughly, taking appropriate action against Ms. Wu and Mrs. Louie for their handling of my mother's query. Additionally, I urge you to reinforce proper training and education programs for all your employees to ensure such incidents are prevented in the future.Furthermore, I seek a prompt resolution to this issue, including a written apology to my mother for the distress and inconvenience caused, as well as a clarification of the correct banking policies regarding direct deposit and minimum balance requirements.I value my mother's relationship with Cathay Bank, and it is my hope that you will take this complaint seriously and address the matter promptly. I trust in your commitment to delivering excellent customer service and upholding the integrity of your institution.Updated 8/18/23: As I tried to call Dora Wu to see what she wants to say after Cathay Bank left a response on my review. I waited two minutes, nobody picked up the phone. Nice customer service as expected.

Worst service of all the bank I went to. Lunch times are always have most traffic but there's only one teller is serving customers while there are almost 20 customers in line.

The bank employees in the New Account department is the rudest peoples I have encountered in my 30 years living in the city.Here’s what happened:Today I went to this place to open an jumbo cd account, when I got there I said to one of the woman there in the New Account department, and she told me I must sign in first, and I did just that, then patiently set down and wait for them to call me. Minutes has gone by (30 minutes in exact), but no one call me or ask me why I’m there or waiting for what, in fact the woman set on “New Account” table was just kept talking to one woman all this time I was there, and they were just chitchatting about their children and things about buying a new phone cover, buying a new dress, and about how their kids performing in school. And all these times she knew I was there waiting for her, but she just didn’t care, even the woman she was talking to, turned around and noticed I was there waiting for long time, and started getting uncomfortable and said to her that she better leave, but was told “forget about him, he can wait!” (I heard that loud and clear, and I think she did that intentionally), so I got up and leave, and on my way out I said (loud and clear also), “ I don’t have to take this, I can take my business elsewhere - like East-West Bank!”And did just that the next day!

I've been helping a relative to manage accounts at Cathay Bank. Since I met with Jolene Chen, she has been so pleasant to work with either at the bank or over the phone. She always tries to explain clearly, be very patient, never rushed.

First and foremost, I have been with this bank my entire life and never had I had such a bad experience with a banker named Stacey. She is the absolute worst when dealing with customer service. As we were in a queue to see a banker, we were the next ones on the list, she blatantly disregarded my brother and myself and did want to work with us. My brother even talked with Stacy that we were next on the list. But, she did not care and did whatever it take to avoid us. My brother and I waited patiently for over 1 hour and no one really checked on us or the queue. If you are still with this bank, avoid Stacy at all costs as she will treat you as a second class citizen.

No services at all for more than 15 minutes at the new accounts department after I'd already signed-in. Although there's no customers ahead of me at the waiting area to be attended by the banker representatives (saw the two service representatives who noticed me standing and waiting in queue for their services).

I have been with CATHAY bank for over 25 years and it's so sad that when I really needed assistance with my account, my only support was the branch office who was trying to get a supervisor at their corporate office to resolve the issue, I have also called their (800#) and It's been now over 2 week and no one has called and I still can not access my account on line. This has been ongoing for several years off and on. It is obvious that Cathay does not care. I need to call my branch and ask for my balance on my accounts. If you do not speak their language you are out of luck and fighting these issues alone. I'm a senior and I believe its time and I will be looking for a new bank with better customer service. I'm sure one customer leaving will not affect them or will they care. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND CATHAY BANK TO ANYONE - the lack of access to my account is almost unlawful, If not, it's definitely unethical. If they are doing this to me and I'm sure there are others, I can only hope that they are not floating our money. For the record, I keep a good and reasonable balance on my accounts, do not bounce checks, so what's the problem? I Hi tolerated this way too long.

steer clear of this bank. I came to close a CD I had opened at a different branch. Went in no direction as to where the line is, or where the sign in is. But I've banked enough to know that there has to be a sign in of some kind. Found a clipboard with a piece of paper on an empty desk. Wrote my info down and sat and waited for 20 min. While the people at the desk were just talking to each other no one bothered to greet or asked what I needed help with. Someone else came in and went strict to the desk and asked the lady for help with some questions on home loans. Then after he got his answer I went up and asked if there was some kind of a line to wait. Then she said yes and said to put my name on the list. I told her my name's been on the list for over 30 min and she said she will help me. At this same time 2 other men went to sign the clipboard and got into an altercation something along the lines of you are too close to me, social distance, but in reality they were not happy with how they waited and no one told them about the clipboard to sign in. They got into a pretty big verbal contest with one man kept asking the other to step outside for a fight. I'm not sure where the security was or why the other people working there didn't intervein to help but all I can say is this kind of behavior wouldn't happen even in a south central bank. only a Chinese bank would happen. Needless to say I'll probably never step foot in here again.

I went to this bank and like the rest of the businesses in this Covid period, they ask that you not enter if you're feeling ill particularly if you're coughing. While waiting in line I noticed one of the staff was coughing and sniffling. Her coworker asked her if she had a fever and she just touched her forehead and proceeded to take her mask off to eat a cough drop. When I got to my teller, I gave them my ID and I've never been asked to take off my mask before but this teller made me take it off to verify my picture. I'm so uncomfortable right now and hope they are at least responsible enough to do contact tracing....stay safe and maybe away from this branch.
